For a stay in Aiguèze, historic sites, hikes, scenery and wine offer different ways to shape your visit. When looking for a hotel, consider what you would like to focus on during your trip: visiting Église Saint-Roch, exploring the trails around CastelViel or enjoying a tasting at Domaine Tour Paradis.

History and Église Saint-Roch

The fortifications of Aiguèze date back to the 11th and 12th centuries; since 2005, the village has been classified as one of the “Plus Beaux Villages de France.” Église Saint-Roch is open to the public during the day and was listed as a historic monument by decree on 19 March 1993.

CastelViel and trails above the gorges

The CastelViel oppidum, also known as “Château vieux,” overlooks the Ardèche Gorges and can be reached via a yellow-marked hiking trail. The Le Rocher de Castelviel hike has a clearly defined route: it starts and ends at Aire de Giet in Aiguèze. It runs above the final meanders of the Ardèche Gorges and offers views of the hills of Gard. The two destinations can be described using different points of reference: for the oppidum, it is the marked access trail; for the hike, it is the start and finish points and the views along the route.

Riverside scenery by the village

Plage d’Aiguèze lies below the village; the rocky beach is set in a wild landscape. Unlike the hike, which runs above the final meanders and offers views of the hills of Gard, the beach is a different scenic spot below the village. The views along the route and the rocky beach setting thus differ in both location and character.

Wine tasting at Domaine Tour Paradis

At Domaine Tour Paradis, the guided cellar tour is the starting point. The estate, its history and its wines are introduced before the wine tasting. The tasting is accompanied by a selection of local cured meats and cheeses. So if you include this in your plans, there is more to the visit than sampling the wines: the tour and introduction to the estate are also part of the experience. Reservations are required; take this requirement into account when planning your visit.

Visitor information and planning

The Aiguèze Tourist Information Office is on the ground floor of the town hall, in the centre of the medieval village. Seasonal opening hours may vary; check them in advance if you plan to visit.

Different conditions apply to the activities in your itinerary: the church is open to the public during the day, the hike starts and ends at Aire de Giet, and a reservation is required for Domaine Tour Paradis. Plan each activity accordingly, taking into account the time of day, route details or reservation requirements.
