Discover Caissargues
Accommodation in Caissargues
Caissargues combines a setting in the Vistre plain with a local history dating back to the Middle Ages, as well as cultural and leisure activities. When planning your trip, you can choose between historic sites, events, green spaces and sports facilities. This makes it easy to tailor your stay to what matters most to you.
Location and connection to Nîmes
Caissargues is located in the Vistre plain, in the canton of Vistrenque and in the Costières area. These geographical references place the town in its landscape and regional context. Tram’bus line T4 connects Caissargues to Marguerittes via the centre of Nîmes; in Caissargues, it has been extended as far as Chemin des Canaux. From the park-and-ride car park, the extension provides a direct connection to the centre of Nîmes; the stated journey time is 20 minutes. Before travelling, check the current timetable and the operator’s service information, as journey times may vary depending on operating conditions.
Culture and local history
The municipality purchased the park and Château de Caissargues in 1954. The church of Caissargues was built in the 11th century and is in the Baroque style. In 1209, Count Raymond VI of Toulouse signed a treaty there. During the Wars of Religion, the church was destroyed in 1574 and subsequently left to fall into ruin. Repairs carried out on the dovecote in 1596, 1604 and 1612 mark further milestones in its history.
The Copper Age is the focus of the Musée La Dame de Caissargues: the permanent exhibition also displays a cast of the skeleton known as the “Dame de Caissargues.” An audio guide, games and lighting effects bring its story to life. Nearby, the colonnades of the former Théâtre de Nîmes were re-erected; traditionally, they are used as a backdrop for wedding photos. The museum and the colonnades offer different cultural and historical points of interest: one is a permanent exhibition on the Copper Age, the other the re-erected columns of a former theatre.
Parks and sports facilities
The Parc municipal is a green space with a five-metre-high climbing frame called “Toile d’araignée” and other play equipment for children. Le Bois des enfants is a park for walks and picnics, with some play equipment for children. A bi-cross track is located right next to it, on Chemin de Bellecoste. The Complexe Philippe Lamour is a multi-sports facility where young people can play sports freely; AS Caissargues Foot, tennis and Boule d’Ivoire train there. These places have different focuses: walks and picnics are the main attractions at Bois des enfants, while the multi-sports facility is for young people to play sports freely.
Events
The Nocturnes de Caissargues take place on Tuesdays in July, with evening concerts in the Parc municipal; the series was held for the third time in 2024. The 2026 edition also featured another open-air cinema night. The Féria de Caissargues was held for the 59th time in 2024. That edition included four days of bullfighting events in the arenas and on the streets. If you would like to plan your trip around an event, check the dates and programme for the relevant edition.
