In Gagnieres, mining history, landscapes, and stage performances come together in different formats. The Musée de la Mine offers self-guided or guided visits; the Parcours de Gagnières combines a walk with reading information panels. There is also a treasure hunt along the Voie verte L’Échappée. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing between these activities: an exhibition, a walk, an activity at the route entrance, and a theater performance are different ways to experience the area.

The Musée de la Mine

At the Musée de la Mine de Gagnières, self-guided or guided visits are available, and audio guides are also provided. The exhibition includes the Salle des pendus and a recreated mine gallery with equipment from the period. The reconstructed gallery brings the mining theme to life in a physical setting and complements the named exhibition area. The different visit options let you explore the museum on your own or with a guide.

A walk with information panels

Allow about two hours for the Parcours de Gagnières, including both the walk and reading all the information panels. An online version of the route is available via QR codes on the panels. The time estimate explicitly covers both parts: the walk and reading all the panels. This makes it easier to estimate the time needed for this activity than for a walk without the additional panel reading.

The Voie verte and treasure hunt

The section of the Voie verte L’Échappée, which opened in 2022, connects Gagnières with Saint-Paul-le-Jeune over a little more than two kilometers. At the entrance on the Gagnières side, there is the L’Échappée Belle treasure hunt. The treasure hunt is open to everyone; a game booklet and pencils are provided there. This identifies both endpoints and the approximate route length, as well as the location of the activity, without implying that the activity covers the entire route.

Mining and railway history

Several information panels along the Voie verte cover the mining history of Gagnières and the history of its former railway line. The history of Gagnières includes the opening of a railway in 1871. From 1832 to 1929, there were around nine mine shafts. These details highlight different time frames: the railway is dated by its opening year, while mining is described over a long period and with an approximate number of shafts.

The Ganière and the landscape

The Ganière is a gold-bearing river that separates very different landscapes in four large loops. This landscape therefore includes the river itself, its striking loops, and the contrasts between the different landscapes. Alongside the themes of mining and railways, the Ganière offers another way to experience Gagnières: the focus here is on the river and changing landscapes, rather than the historical context of industry.

Performances at Le Petit Théâtre de la Berthe

Stage performances take place three times a month at Le Petit Théâtre de la Berthe. Actors, musicians, singers, artists, and theater enthusiasts take part in the performances. Since program details can change, check the current dates before your visit. This lets you include this activity in your travel plans without mistaking the recurring schedule for a guarantee of a performance on a specific date.
