Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols: Heritage, Horses and Wine
Accommodation in Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols
Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols offers several specific points of interest to help you plan your trip: a protected oppidum, the temple dating from 1867, a walking route, equestrian activities and wineries. If you’re looking for a hotel, you can first decide which of these is most important for your trip.
Heritage and local history
The Oppidum de Mauressip, also known as Mouressipe, is located at the top of Mauressipe. According to local accounts, it dates from around 2500 BC; its features include a square tower and Hellenistic masonry facings. It is protected as a historic monument. Two legal acts should be distinguished: the Hellenistic tower and the adjacent settlement ruins were classified by decree on 8 September 1978; the oppidum itself was registered by decree on 14 June 1982. This distinguishes the architectural features from the subsequent protection decisions.
The Temple de Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols was built in 1867. It has a single-nave body and a gallery with a wooden balustrade, supported by Tuscan columns. These specific architectural features help place the building in context, as well as its date.
A capitelle is a dry-stone hut that once served small landowners in the former garrigue as a temporary shelter for tools and agricultural produce. It links dry-stone construction with a clearly defined former purpose in everyday agricultural life. Fontarame is different in nature: a spring shaded by plane trees.
Hiking, horses and recreation
The “Balade De Puechs en Combes” walking route passes through Montpezat and Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols. The Domaine équestre de Maruéjols adds equestrian activities to the mix. A description updated in July 2023 puts the pastureland at 110 hectares and lists 52 horses bred there; it also mentions 20 Camargue horses and 12 ponies. It lists walking, pony and carriage tours as ways to visit the horse-breeding operation.
In addition, one- or two-hour rides and full-day outings are offered on horseback or by carriage. Ponies can be hired from the age of three for four signposted routes. For planning purposes, rides can be distinguished by their specific duration options; visits and pony hire are separate activities. The Espace familial de Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols also includes a skate park.
Winemaking and the Fête votive
A description updated in November 2025 lists two distinct wine profiles. The Domaine de Mouressipe covers 13 hectares, with Grenache as its predominant grape variety. It produces and offers exclusively natural wines as well as Vin de Pays made using organic farming methods. The Domaine de Foltodon is described as a 14-hectare organic winery on terraces in Saint-Côme-Et-Maruéjols. The vines benefit from an ideal microclimate; red, rosé and white wines are produced and valued for their balance and aromatic complexity. The profiles described therefore differ: one emphasizes its grape variety and wine categories, while the other features terraces, organic farming and three wine colors.
The Fête votive takes place annually. The 2026 opening program included the “longue de Saint-Côme à Maruéjols,” followed by a traditional meal in Maruéjols.
