If you’re looking for hotels in Abeilhan, you can plan your stay around the walks and cultural attractions. The routes described differ in distance, duration and difficulty: two loops cover 3 and 6 kilometres, and there is also a 15-kilometre circular walk. One route passes through the Côtes de Thongue vineyards and along the Thongue. Distance alone is not the only point of comparison; the difficulty and stated duration also vary.

Comparing the two loops

Loop No. 1, “À la découverte d’Abeilhan”, is classified as an easy walk. It is 3 km long and is listed as taking 1 hour 30 minutes. Loop No. 2, “Saint-Pierre, entre vignes et oliviers”, is of moderate difficulty; it covers 6 km, with a stated duration of 2 hours 15 minutes. No. 2 is therefore twice as long, is listed as taking 45 minutes longer, and is rated as more challenging. When choosing between the two loops, time and difficulty are therefore just as relevant as the distance itself. Conditions on these two routes and the stated durations may change; check the latest information before setting out.

The circular walk along the Thongue

OENORANDO® LA THONGUE ET SES COTEAUX is the longest of the three walks, at 15 km and 3 hours 45 minutes. The circular walk is of moderate difficulty. It passes through the Côtes de Thongue vineyards and along the banks of the Thongue. This is a particularly clear choice for walkers who want to combine vineyards and riverbanks on a longer circular route. After crossing the RD33 bridge, there is an opportunity to picnic on the banks of the Thongue beneath the pine trees. The walk starts from the Cave Coopérative car park on Boulevard Louis Pasteur in Abeilhan. Parking arrangements may change; check the situation before travelling. Route conditions may also change. The route is marked with yellow PR waymarks and carries the designations Oenorando®, PDIPR, PR - FFR and Vignobles et Découvertes. Check the waymarks on site.

Local traditions and events

In Abeilhan, the magpie is considered the local totem animal; it is called “l’agasse”. The name gives the bird a special connection to local tradition and adds a cultural dimension to the landscape and walking themes. The town provides a setting for various cultural events throughout the year, including Heritage Days and the patron saint’s festival. Dates and programmes may vary. If you want to plan your trip around an event, check the relevant dates and programmes in advance. This lets you consider a cultural event as a separate planning point alongside the walks.
