Discover Jacou: walking trails and cultural heritage
Accommodation in Jacou
Jacou offers a variety of ways to explore the town: walking trails pass through wooded landscapes or follow a stream, while cultural sites and events reveal historical and artistic aspects of the municipality. To help plan your visit, the trails can be distinguished by route and theme; for guided walks and events, the dates also matter.
Walking trails with different themes
The “Parcours Bleu” (“Blue Trail”) by “Chemins de traverse” is 2 km long. It starts in front of École élémentaire Condorcet and ends in front of the Jacou media library and town hall. Along the way, it passes through a pine forest and follows the La Ribeyrolle stream to the entrance to Parc Bocaud. The route thus combines a clearly defined trail with woodland and stream scenery. The red loop by “Chemins de traverse” has a different theme: it is dedicated to sport and shares anecdotes about the municipality’s history and sporting life.
Las Bouzigues is also a wooded area with a walking trail passing through a variety of Mediterranean plant species. The La Mayre trail, meanwhile, runs from the entrance to Jacou at the junction of Avenue de Vendargues and Rue Antoine Blanchemain to the La Draye district; it follows a stream. Along the trail, you can discover a flower meadow, and there is also a fig tree conservatory. Opened in 2019, the trail is considered accessible to everyone, including people with reduced mobility. Check the accessibility conditions on site before your visit.
Culture and history in Jacou
A cultural and historical walk through the old town takes in the spring and its decorated grotto, the former parish church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens, the washhouse, the water reservoir and Maison de la Coquille. Dates for guided walks vary depending on the season. If you are planning this tour, be sure to check the relevant date.
Parc et jardin de Bocaud includes an 18th-century garden, classified as a “Monument historique” since 2000. Near the lake, the Bocaud garden features a grotto-nymphaeum decorated with rockwork and shells. Domaine de Bocaud is listed as historical heritage, while Parc de Bocaud is classified as historical heritage. Visitors can stroll through the terraced gardens of Château de Bocaud; the interior is not open to visitors. The garden visit and the interior visit are therefore clearly distinct.
Events and getting there
La Passerelle offers a public cultural programme featuring music, circus, theatre and film, as well as contemporary dance performances and workshops. Each year, the venue welcomes Chœur Occitan de Clapiers Universellement T’apprécié for a concert of Occitan songs as part of the “Soirées occitanes de Jacou”. In spring, nearly 600 young people from Jacou perform at La Passerelle as part of “Jacou a du Chœur”. If you would like to plan your trip around a performance or concert, check the latest event dates.
