Prémian brings together a cultural history walk and tours through a landscape shaped by forests and water. The village lies on the left bank of the Jaur and within the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park. Two distinct highlights are especially relevant when planning your visit: the village’s history along “Au Fil des Rues” and the landscape around Lac de Vésoles. The tours differ in length, time required and type of activity, so you can plan your stay around the experience you want.

Local history along “Au Fil des Rues”

“Au Fil des Rues” is an easy artistic and cultural history walk through Prémian. It covers 2.3 kilometres across twelve stops and takes about 1.5 hours. First-hand accounts and artistic displays bring the history of Prémian and its residents to life. QR codes provide access to audio recordings and videos on your smartphone. This gives you different ways to explore local history: you can listen to or watch the stories while taking in the artistic character of the stops.

At about 1.5 hours and 2.3 kilometres, the walk is shorter than the Tour du Lac de Vésoles, which takes about two hours and covers 6.5 kilometres. The comparison helps distinguish the two experiences by time and distance: this route focuses on the history of Prémian across twelve stops, while the other is a circular walk through the landscape.

Forests, viewpoints and the lake area

The Tour du Lac de Vésoles is an easy circular route in Prémian. It passes through a forested landscape and leads to viewpoints. The protected lake area includes wetlands with remarkable flora. Lac et Saut de Vésoles is also in the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park; heathland and forests surround the lake. Forests, wetlands and their flora are therefore all among the area’s described natural features.

Hiking trail, mountain bike route and long-distance footpath

For mountain bikers, Circuit n°8 Notre-Dame de Trédos is another option. It is a red-rated route in the Site VTT-FFC Caroux en Haut-Languedoc, intended for experienced mountain bikers. The starting point is Place Saint-Amans in Prémian. Technical conditions may change after heavy rain, so check them before setting out.

The GR 77 long-distance footpath crosses Prémian from north to south. By contrast, both the starting point and the rating for experienced mountain bikers are specified for Circuit n°8. The two routes therefore represent different types of activity: the mountain bike circuit explicitly identifies its intended users, while the GR 77 is described by the direction in which it crosses the commune.

Accessibility information

The Tour du Lac de Vésoles can be completed using a level 1 Joëlette and is accessible to people with limited mobility. However, there is a flight of steps between the car park and the starting point. Take this specific detail into account when planning and check access information with local sources before your trip.
