Saint-Clément-De-Rivière offers several distinct starting points for planning your trip: the source of the Lez, woodland and garrigue, the Aqueduc Saint-Clément and wine tastings. This lets you choose a destination that matches your interests without combining nature, local history and wine culture into a single excursion itinerary.

Lez, garrigue and woodland

The Lez rises in Saint-Clément-de-Rivière. From its source, the Le Lez Natura 2000 site extends for 14 kilometres and partly includes the commune. Check the boundaries of the protected area before planning access. The landscape of Saint-Clément-de-Rivière combines garrigue, pine forests, vineyards and agricultural land.

The Bois de Saint-Sauveur covers almost 100 hectares of hilly woodland with Aleppo pines and oaks. An extensive network of paths is intended for hiking, mountain biking and horse riding. A change to the trail markings should be noted; check route conditions before setting out. This makes it possible to tailor an outing to your preferred activity, while planning the specific route on site.

Nature and activity at Pic Natura

Pic Natura is a seven-hectare intercommunal nature park in Saint-Clément-de-Rivière. The site includes a children's playground, picnic tables and a fitness trail. There is also a street workout and outdoor fitness area that is open to everyone. If a particular facility is important for your visit, check its status in advance, as individual facilities may change.

There is also a dedicated focus on trial cycling: the Bikers du Pic cycling school operates an area with several training courses at Pic Natura. The park's central building currently houses an intercommunal tourist information office. Park facilities, cycling training and visitor information are therefore different features at one named location; when planning your day, you can decide whether exercise, a break outdoors or finding your bearings on site is the priority.

Aqueduct and local history

The Aqueduc Saint-Clément crosses the commune and is a visible example of 18th-century hydraulic engineering. In the second half of that century, the engineer Henri Pitot designed the aqueduct; Jacques Nogaret built it. The structure is listed as a historic monument. The protection entries date from 19 August 1994 and 22 July 2022—these dates refer to its protected status, not its construction period.

The history of the village can also be placed in context: the existence of Saint-Clément is documented from 1109. At that time, the bishop of Maguelone transferred his rights to the church of Saint-Clément-de-Fontaine to the abbot of Aniane. A local publication from 1989 links Fontbouysse pottery found in the Grotte de Saint-Clément-de-Rivière with the settlement of a sedentary prehistoric population. The grotto is partly damaged and fenced off.

Fragments from the grotto are displayed in a glass case outside the council chamber at the town hall. Check in advance whether the display is accessible to visitors.

Wine and landscape

The Domaine de Saint-Clément manages nine hectares of vineyards and cultivates the entire vineyard biodynamically. In its historic cellar, it offers tastings of wines vinified on site. If wine is one of your travel interests, this is a specific additional focus alongside woodland, garrigue and architectural history.
