Hiking trails between forest and pasture

Les Monts-Verts combines hiking trails with several distinctive landmarks. The municipality has three hiking trails. Le Tour des deux Bacon and Panoramas des Monts-Verts differ in the time they take, their routes and their individual features. Le Tour des deux Bacon follows good paths through forests and pastures and offers panoramic views of the Cantal Massif and the Margeride Range. For hikers who appreciate both forest sections and open pastures as well as expansive views, this route brings them all together in one circuit.

A comparison of two easy circular hikes

Both of these routes are easy circular hikes. Le Tour des deux Bacon takes about an hour and a half, while Panoramas des Monts-Verts takes approximately three hours. This means there is a shorter circuit and a longer one, while both have the same difficulty rating. To plan your hiking day, you can first decide how much time you have and then weigh the route’s scenic or cultural features. Check local conditions before setting out; you should also confirm the availability of the municipal hiking trails locally.

Cultural and natural features along the way

On Panoramas des Monts-Verts, the route passes the Croix de Trémouloux. The instruments of Christ’s Passion are carved into the cross’s shaft. Le Tour des deux Bacon passes the 18th-century Calvary in Le Bacon. The depiction of the cross and the Calvary provide distinct cultural highlights along the two routes.

The more than century-old beech tree Lou fâou de Baïsse also stands along the Le Tour des deux Bacon hiking trail. It adds a single, named natural landmark to the panoramic views of the Cantal Massif and the Margeride Range. The route’s natural features therefore range from sweeping panoramas to an individual tree along the way.

Sainte-Marie de Berc Church

Sainte-Marie de Berc Church is built of large-format granite masonry. Its spire was built in 1875. The material and date offer two distinct points of interest: the masonry reflects the church’s building material, while the year 1875 relates to the spire. Sainte-Marie de Berc thus adds a named landmark with a dated architectural detail to the hiking routes. For visitors interested in architecture as well as hiking, the church offers a distinct connection to building history.
