Discover Lissac-Sur-Couze on Lac du Causse
Accommodation in Lissac-Sur-Couze
Lac du Causse gives Lissac-Sur-Couze a clear focus on the water: the artificial lake lies in the Couze valley, at the foot of the villages of Lissac and Chasteaux. The area also offers hiking routes, cycling activities, and protected architectural and cave heritage. This combination can help you assess the destination according to the themes that matter for your stay.
Lac du Causse and nearby routes
A 7-kilometer circular route around the lake can be used on foot or by bicycle. This is distinct from Stage 9 of the GR®46: it starts at Lac du Causse and runs for 7 kilometers along the Couze valley. Both route descriptions give the same distance but refer to different types of route—one is a circuit around the lake, the other a stage along the valley.
Two hikes associated with Lissac-Sur-Couze are included in the departmental hiking and walking route plan, PDIPR. Descriptions and GPS track downloads are available for “Les Coteaux du lac du Causse” and “Les trois villages du Causse.” This lets you explore the named hikes using their respective descriptions rather than treating them as the lake circuit or the GR®46 stage. Check route conditions before setting out.
Courses and rentals at Port Lissac
At Port Lissac, the Club des Sports Nautiques de Brive offers rowing courses and sailing activities year-round. The club also rents pedal boats, stand-up paddleboards, and canoes there. Both courses and various rental options are therefore available at the same location; these are separate offerings.
Hiking, mountain biking, Nordic walking, triathlon, and open-water swimming are also possible at and on Lac du Causse. These activities offer different ways to enjoy the lake: some take you along trails, while others take place on or in the water. Which ones shape your stay depends on how you want to spend your time there.
Bikes and cycling circuits
Base Sports Loisirs Causse rents mountain bikes and touring bikes, including models with electric assistance. The offer is aimed at adults and children. The base also offers 14 cycling circuits starting at Lac du Causse; they are available year-round by reservation. Bike rentals and cycling circuits are two specific options to consider when planning your trip. If you want to use a circuit, arrange your visit in advance because reservations are required.
Historic buildings and cave
The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens has been listed as a historic monument since March 15, 1972. The Château de Lissac has held this protected status since April 18, 1997. The medieval castle retains authentic structural elements dating from the mid-15th century. Its main building dates from the 15th century, is L-shaped, and has a defensive tower at its northeastern corner. These dates and architectural features give the castle a clear historical context.
Another heritage site is the Grotte du moulin de Laguenay, à la Boissière, in the La Boissière district of Lissac-Sur-Couze. It is a decorated cave with rock art and was listed as a historic monument by decree on June 15, 1994. Together with the church and the Château, it offers a different way to explore the destination than the trails and water-based activities: the focus here is on officially recognized history and specific architectural features.
