Discover Peyrelevade
Accommodation in Peyrelevade
Peyrelevade offers a range of attractions for a stay: a large peat bog, historic buildings, and facilities for exercise and sport. Highlights include a 6.2-kilometre discovery trail and a pump track that is open year-round.
Landscape and biodiversity
The Tourbière de Négarioux Malsagne lies within the municipality of Peyrelevade. This peat bog covers 200 hectares and is a Natura 2000 site. It can be reached from the car park in the hamlet of Geneyte via a 6.2-kilometre discovery trail.
Species found in the peat bog include the European otter, the barbastelle bat, and the greater mouse-eared bat.
Lac du Chammet has a different landscape. It is surrounded by meadows and coniferous and deciduous forests; the lake is home to carp and pike.
Historic buildings
The Chapelle du Rat is a 17th-century chapel and has been listed in the register of historic monuments since 1927. Its grounds offer expansive views across the plateau. Every August, an open-air Mass is held there for Saint Roch.
The parish church of Saint-Pierre was built in the 13th century. Its corbels feature carved masks and ram’s heads. The parish church dates from the 13th century, while the Chapelle du Rat dates from the 17th century.
Visitors to Les moulins de Chamboux can see two fully restored mills. They serve different purposes: one produces flour, the other electricity.
The Ferme de Drouillat is listed in the register of historic monuments; its farmhouse was built in 1840. The farm is of the “bloc à terre” type characteristic of Haute-Corrèze. The stables are arranged in a line with the farmhouse, with the barn and stable behind them.
The monumental Croix monumentale du Bélier ou des Templiers stands southwest of the town centre, near the bridge over the Vienne and beside the road to Saint-Merd-les-Oussines. Its base is carved in the shape of a crouching ram. The ram motif therefore appears both in the name and in the design of the base.
Get active on the pump track, golf course, and gravel circuit
The pump track is a 300-metre asphalt course with rollers, curves, and various lines. It is suitable for all ages and for scooters, skateboards, inline skates, mountain bikes, and BMX bikes. The facility is open every day year-round and is free to access.
Golf Rural du Chammet has a 9-hole, par-35 course measuring 2,700 metres. Visitors can also try golf using the equipment provided.
For cycling enthusiasts, the “Circuit découverte” VTT-Gravel loop is part of the FFVélo Haute-Corrèze mountain biking centre. Together with the pump track, it offers another cycling option, while the golf course provides a different sporting activity.
