Anzême combines architectural history with opportunities to experience the landscape along the Creuse and activities on foot, by bike or on the water. When looking for a hotel in Anzême, you can consider whether church architecture and local history, a waterside trail or an active outing should shape your stay. The sights and activities offer a range of specific points of interest to help you decide.

Church, bridge and local tradition

The Église Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul dates from the 13th century and was vaulted in the 14th century. Its six-part choir vault is considered very rare in this region. On 19 March 1982, the church was listed as a historic monument; the sacristy is excluded from this designation. Those interested in architectural history will find both a clearly dated historical context and a distinctive architectural detail here.

Another part of the area's history is linked to Pont du Diable. The bridge lies below the village in the Creuse gorges. According to local legend, Satan built it. Alongside this story is the tradition that it was built by masons from the Creuse in the 14th century and altered in the 18th century. The legend and the cautiously worded historical attribution tell different sides of the same bridge's story.

Waterfalls and trails from the village centre

The Cascades de la Mouline are a stream and waterfall in a wild setting near Anzême. Access starts in the village centre, heads towards Bussière-Dunoise and then follows a small footpath downhill. Check access conditions before setting out. This makes it possible to factor the route to this natural attraction into your day's plans without assuming a walking time or difficulty level.

The Sentier découverte d’Anzême is an approximately 1.3-kilometre educational trail starting in the village centre. It explains how the landscape between the Creuse Valley and the Ruisseau de la Siauve developed. Eight interactive information features are aimed at younger and older visitors alike. At interactive stations, families can learn by observing, trying things out, comparing and imagining. The trail therefore combines a manageable distance with a specific theme: landscape development. Opening hours are not guaranteed; take this into account when planning your day.

Climbing and mountain biking routes

The Rocher de Jupille has 68 climbing routes graded from 3C to 7C, with a maximum height of 80 metres. The climbing area reopened on 16 June 2024 and can be reached via a riverside footpath through the village of Jupille. Access to the cliffs from Jupille includes a walk of around 10 to 15 minutes and a footbridge over the EDF reservoir. Before your outing, check whether any seasonal access restrictions apply. The routes and access details described here help you distinguish the climbing option from Anzême's other activities.

Two mountain bike circuits also take in different waypoints. Route No. 34 La Sciauve passes the Cascades de la Mouline, goes via Péchadoire on the banks of the Creuse, through the Montbut-Chignaroche forest and along a former railway line. Route No. 33 Le Bois de Montbut reaches the Montbut-Chignaroche forest via Péchadoire and returns to Anzême along a path at the foot of the Croix de Montbut. Route No. 34 thus connects several landscape features with the former railway line; Route No. 33 is characterised by its return via the Croix de Montbut. Check trail conditions before setting off.

Canoe trip and brewery visit

The Canoë Rando Culture canoe trip starts at Pont du Diable in Anzême and lasts approximately two hours. It is suitable for people aged seven and over; availability may vary by season. If you would like to plan the trip, check whether it runs on your travel dates. The duration, minimum age and seasonal operation provide specific guidance without assuming that it runs all year round.

L’Avalée de la Kreuze offers beer tastings, tours and workshops. You can explore the gardens, hop garden and microbrewery. Tours and workshops may require prior arrangements. Alongside activities on the water and among the rocks, this offers another theme to consider when planning your trip.
