Châtelus-Malvaleix: Heritage, walking trails and water activities
Accommodation in Châtelus-Malvaleix
The local attractions range from religious heritage and scenic views to walking trails and a pump track, as well as two bodies of water with distinct features. This lets you plan your trip around specific activities without treating the attractions as interchangeable.
Church and scenic views
The Église Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens preserves a chemin de ronde, or rampart walk, as the only surviving remnant of its fortifications. The church also contains a 15th-century polychrome alabaster altarpiece depicting episodes from the Passion of Christ. The rampart walk and the altarpiece offer different points of interest: one highlights the history of the fortifications, the other religious art. For a culturally themed stay, the church therefore offers two specific aspects around which you can plan your visit.
The Point de vue de La Garenne offers a different perspective: from there, the panorama stretches across northern Creuse and southern Indre. This viewpoint offers a distinct focus from the details of the church. If you would like to include culture and landscape in your travel plans, you will find two clearly distinct themes here, without tying them to a particular route.
Walking trails and cycle routes
The Les meuniers circular trail is 6 kilometres long and takes approximately one hour and 30 minutes. It showcases the architectural and natural heritage of Châtelus-Malvaleix. When planning this walk, you can take its length and approximate duration into account; details of walking trails may change, so check them again before setting out.
The Le Chemin qui parle circular trail is 4.5 kilometres long, making it 1.5 kilometres shorter than Les meuniers. Along the way, you can listen to stories and audio commentary. If you would like to use the audio features, check in advance that they will be available during your visit. The Les Seigneurs circular trail follows several paths and showcases the municipality’s remarkable architectural and natural heritage. Several circular trails from the intercommunal mountain-biking base start right in Châtelus-Malvaleix. So, alongside the circular trails described here, you will also find a starting point for mountain-bike rides.
Activities and water-based attractions
The Châtelus-Malvaleix pump track is a 180-metre-long course with bumps and curves. It is exclusively for non-motorised vehicles, including bicycles, balance bikes, scooters and skateboards. This restriction is relevant when choosing an activity: what matters is whether you want to use one of these types of vehicle.
The Plan d'eau de la Roussille is a leisure area with supervised swimming in July and August. Family activities include water play features, children’s play equipment and a treetop adventure playground; pedal boats can also be rented there. Supervised swimming is seasonal, and pedal-boat rentals may depend on the season or operator. So check the swimming dates and rental availability for your visit.
Fishing and discovering local fauna and flora are the main activities at the Plan d'eau de la Prugne. It has a parking space suitable for people with reduced mobility and fishing platforms for people with disabilities. If you plan to use these facilities, confirm locally before your arrival that they are suitable for your needs. Fishing seasons may also vary.
