Discover Jarnages
Accommodation in Jarnages
Jarnages brings together a range of things to explore during your stay: Église Saint-Michel, with its medieval architectural history; Atelier Épicentre, a contemporary music venue; and Étang communal, with fishing and recreational activities. These themes offer different ways to get to know Jarnages during your stay.
Medieval architectural history at Église Saint-Michel
Église Saint-Michel dates from the 12th century. At the end of the 14th century, it was altered for defence against an attack. On the choir side, there is a defensive turret with three machicolations and trefoil arcades. The building therefore brings together two periods: the 12th-century church and its later defensive alterations. If you are interested in architecture, you can look out for this feature in the choir area.
By decree of 12 November 1930, the church was listed as a Monument historique. It is open to the public and contains paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Confirm access locally before your arrival.
Fountains and stories from Jarnages
Near the church, the Fontaine des Saints-Innocents is carved from a solid block of granite. The Fontaine de Saint Protais, also known as the “Puits”, is protected as a Monument historique. Both fountains offer a different perspective from the church’s architectural history: the focus here is on individual, named water sources.
“Jarnages partage ses histoires” is an invitation to discover local stories, anecdotes and Jarnages’s small heritage. The residents also have a distinctive local name: they are sometimes called “Belges creusois” in local parlance. This gives you the opportunity to explore Jarnages through both its buildings and its stories and local names.
Contemporary music and exchange
Épicentre is a contemporary music workshop in Jarnages dedicated to contemporary sound practices. Its activities include project presentations, rehearsals, meetings, discussions, concerts and artist residencies. For travel planning, this offers a different cultural perspective from the history of architecture: the focus is on sound practices and a range of ways to work, present and meet.
Hotel, restaurant and home-style cooking
In the heart of Jarnages, the cultural inn L’Alzire combines a bar, hotel and restaurant. The restaurant serves home-style cooking, with a preference for local produce. If food is a factor in choosing where to stay, this combination offers a specific point of interest: its culinary profile pairs home-style cooking with an emphasis on local produce.
Fishing and activities at Étang communal
Étang communal in Jarnages is a lake and fishing spot with a designated fishing area. It also offers a fitness trail and children’s play equipment. These features cater to different leisure interests: fishing is the lake’s main activity, while the fitness trail and play equipment encourage exercise and play. Check local access requirements and the current condition of the facilities before visiting.
