These themes lead to different points of interest across the municipality and shape which places you include in your plans. Be sure to take seasonal offerings and trail conditions into account.

Lakeshore and water sports

The municipality of Royère-de-Vassivière stretches along the shores of Lac de Vassivière, from the dam through Masgrangeas and the Presqu’île de Broussas to Vauveix. The lakeshore therefore includes several named places, not just a single beach. Plage de Broussas and Plage de Vauveix each offer different kinds of activities on the water.

Plage de Broussas is a supervised beach with rentals of canoes, stand-up paddleboards and mountain bikes. At Plage de Vauveix, the Nautic Club Limousin sailing school offers rentals, lessons and courses for dinghies, catamarans, windsurfing boards and stand-up paddleboarding. The practical difference: Vauveix offers lessons and courses, while Broussas combines a supervised beach with rentals, including mountain bikes. Seasonal services may vary at both locations; the sailing school’s opening hours may also change. Check the latest information before planning your visit.

Nature, wetlands and trails

The Presqu’île de Chassagnas has a 7.3-kilometre hiking trail. The trail length is a specific point of reference for planning your hike; check current trail conditions locally.

A discovery trail through the La Mazure landscape passes through a large wetland designated as a Natura 2000 site. The La Mazure area combines exceptional natural heritage with local heritage that reflects the development of life in the area. The Rigole et Rocher du Diable site in Royère-de-Vassivière is also designated as a Natura 2000 site and listed in the ZNIEFF inventory.

History, culture and regional cuisine

The parish church of Saint-Germain dates from the late 13th or early 14th century; its porch tower was added in the 15th century. This makes it possible to distinguish the church’s construction period from the later addition of the tower.

There are also different culinary highlights: L’Atelier serves seasonal cuisine, while the Ferme de Vassivière offers goat’s cheese made on-site. At L’Atelier, the cuisine is original and home-style, prepared with fresh produce sourced mainly from local producers and organic farming. The culinary offerings may change.

The Ferme de Vassivière offers Crottins, Palets and Bûches in fresh, semi-dry and dry varieties. These offerings may also change; check before visiting.
