Discover Saint-Pardoux-Le-Neuf
Accommodation in Saint-Pardoux-Le-Neuf
Saint-Pardoux-Le-Neuf offers three distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: the Gorges de la Rozeille, the Église Saint-Pardoux and a stage of the GR4. If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first decide whether landscape, church architecture or hiking is your priority.
Landscape along the Rozeille
The Gorges de la Rozeille valley forms deep gorges over a distance of about four kilometres, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding rural landscape. The Gorges de la Rozeille is designated as a “site inscrit” and overlaps with the ZNIEFF “Vallée de la Rozeille”. The designated area includes Saint-Pardoux-Le-Neuf and Moutier-Rozeille. The landscape and the area’s designation therefore offer two different points of reference if you are interested in the natural environment.
Église Saint-Pardoux and its construction history
The Église Saint-Pardoux dates from the 13th century and was restored in the 19th century. The nave has two bays and a pointed barrel vault. A bay is a section of the nave, so the two bays indicate how the space is divided. The barrel vault describes the shape of the vaulted ceiling, while “pointed” specifies the shape of the arch. The layout and the vault form are therefore two distinct architectural features. Surviving details include carved corbels. The former masonry bell tower was replaced by a timber-framed bell tower. The north chapel houses the painting “The Giving of the Rosary to Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena”, created in 1666. The title names both saints and the subject of the rosary being given. The church’s construction in the 13th century, the painting from 1666 and the restoration in the 19th century represent different periods. The building’s history, furnishings and artwork offer different points of interest for culturally minded travellers.
Hiking and travel planning
The GR4 includes a 15-kilometre stage from Bellegarde-en-Marche to Saint-Pardoux-Le-Neuf. The starting point, destination and route length give you concrete details for planning your hike. Check the route’s current waymarking before setting off.
The Fête à Saint-Pardoux-Le-Neuf features grilled lamb and entertainment. Check the dates and whether the festival is taking place before your trip.
From 4 September 2023 to 31 August 2024, regional bus route 283 served the Saint-Pardoux-le-Neuf – La Croix de La Vedrenne stop. If you are planning to travel by bus, check the current regional timetable before relying on this service.
When choosing a hotel, you can easily distinguish between these interests: the GR4 for its hiking stage, the Gorges de la Rozeille for the landscape and area designation, and the Église Saint-Pardoux for architecture and art.
