You can plan a trip to Isle around specific activities: circular routes of varying lengths, cycling options and historic sites. If you’re looking for a hotel in Isle, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay. The trails cover a clear range of distances; the cultural offerings include architectural history, media and seasonal workshops. This gives you some pointers for considering Isle as a travel destination.

Hiking trails in two lengths

The Red Circular Route is 6.5 km long and runs through meadows, woodland paths and old villages, taking in the Aurence Valley. The Yellow Circular Route is 15 km long and leads to châteaux in the municipality of Isle. So when choosing a route for an outing, the distance is one clear difference: the two circular routes cover different distances, but this alone does not indicate how long they take to walk or how difficult they are.

Conditions on both circular routes can change with the seasons. Check the conditions for your planned route before setting out. This lets you take into account both the distance and the situation at the time of your trip.

Cycling and trails in the Bois des Bayles

The Bike Park in the Plaine des jeux du Gondeau offers cycling routes for different ability levels. Check for any current access restrictions before visiting. In the Bois des Bayles, mountain bikers and joggers can use trails and connecting paths, as well as a landscaped fitness trail. Access and maintenance conditions may change, so check the conditions before visiting. These are different offerings: cycling routes in the Bike Park, and trails and a fitness trail in the Bois des Bayles.

Church and Château d’Isle

The Église Saint-Martin in Isle probably dates back to the 13th century and has a masonry bell tower with a gabled roof. The church and its associated cross were listed as historic monuments by decree on 15 October 1985. The church’s date remains uncertain; the decree, by contrast, specifies the date of its protected status.

The Château d’Isle was a summer residence of the bishops of Limoges. The bishops later expanded it into a fortress. Today, only the fixed part of a door on the right-hand side of the church façade remains from the former complex. The château’s history can therefore also be traced through this surviving architectural feature on the façade.

Media library and seasonal cultural activities

The Médiathèque d’Isle offers books, magazines, newspapers, children’s picture books, audio recordings and DVDs for loan and use on site. Borrowing and using the materials on site are two different ways to access them.

At the Centre culturel Robert Margerit, leisure workshops run from September to June, excluding school holidays, and offer a wide range of physical and artistic activities. Several leisure workshops also offer free performances every year in the auditorium or at the Espace Bayles Isle.

For planning purposes, the workshop schedule and trail conditions are separate considerations: workshops run from September to June, excluding school holidays, while conditions on the circular routes can change with the seasons. If both are relevant to your stay, check the relevant workshop dates and the conditions on your planned route.

Bus routes in the municipality

Two bus routes serve the municipality of Isle; two others run along its outskirts. This distinction may be useful when planning your trip. As public transport routes may change, check the latest information from STCLM before travelling.
