Discover Nedde: Nature, Trails and Heritage
Accommodation in Nedde
Nedde is located in the Parc naturel régional de Millevaches en Limousin. Forests, hiking opportunities, the Cité des Insectes and historic buildings offer different starting points for planning your trip. You can tailor your stay to outdoor activities, unique visitor experiences, or architecture and history.
Landscape and hiking trails
Forests cover 60% of the commune. Together with its location in the Regional Natural Park, this gives Nedde its close connection to nature. Two different trail formats are worth considering when planning a hike: the GR46 long-distance trail passes through Nedde and connects Tours with Toulouse along its route. By contrast, the Circuit de Chaud is a circular trail in Nedde, with its length and walking time clearly specified.
The Circuit de Chaud is 16.6 km long; the stated walking time is four hours. The circular route also offers views of the Vienne Valley. This gives you a clear idea of the tour’s length and the time it will take. The GR46, by contrast, is defined by its route through Nedde and its connection between Tours and Toulouse. The two trails therefore differ in how you plan for them: one is a described circular hike with a specified length and duration, while the other is a long-distance trail on a route between two cities. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.
Rando Millevaches is a free digital guidebook for activities such as hiking, mountain biking, trail running and horseback riding. It therefore covers more than just one way of getting around. If you’re planning your trip around a particular activity, you can use this range of options as a guide. The Circuit de Chaud, meanwhile, provides specific details about one circular hike, including its length and walking time.
Unique experiences and architectural history
At the Cité des Insectes, visitors can handle live insects and taste insects. As the seasonal program may change, check which activities are available during your travel dates before visiting. This allows you to include the experience in your plans without confusing it with the hiking opportunities.
Nedde’s architectural history also offers specific points of interest. Château de Nedde replaced a medieval fortress. It was built during the reign of Henry IV, in the late 16th or early 17th century. Features of Saint-Martin Church include a roof entirely covered with chestnut shingles and a bell tower. The church also has an intricately decorated exterior tie beam from the 15th century, adorned with small figures.
Pont de Claveyrolas is a narrow bridge over the Vienne and can only be crossed on foot. It is thought to date from the 13th or 14th century. For trip planning, the fact that it is for pedestrians only is an important practical consideration; its estimated date adds another building with a medieval past to the historical sites of the château and church.
