Royères combines trails through villages with routes along the Vienne. It is also home to the Église Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry, with a 14th-century enfeu, a fishing course and a farm with direct sales. To plan your stay, you can focus on the type of route you prefer or explore the area’s different cultural, historical and regional themes.

Circular Trails and Riverside Routes

The Chemin de Caux - La Mazière starts in Royères and is an 8.5-kilometre circular route. It passes through La Mazière and Caux, two villages typical of Haute-Vienne. Along the way, you can catch a glimpse of the Château de Brignac. The estate is private and cannot be visited.

The Sentier de Brignac au Moulin du Got is a 4.4-kilometre out-and-back route starting in Royères. It follows the banks of the Vienne as far as the Moulin du Got. The two routes therefore differ in both length and layout: the Chemin is a circular route through the villages, while the Sentier goes out and back to the river. This information gives you a clear basis for choosing between the two types of route.

Paper History along the Vienne

The nearby Moulin du Got is a place dedicated to commemorating and preserving the history of papermaking in the Vienne valley. Tèrra Aventura’s “Laisser voguer les petits papiers” walk also explores this theme: it follows the banks of the Vienne in Royères and offers an introduction to the history of papermaking. The two experiences have different focuses: the Moulin is about remembrance and preservation, while the walk combines a riverside route with an introduction to the history of paper.

Church and Historic Monument

The Église Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry includes a 14th-century enfeu. The church, including this enfeu, was designated a historic monument by decree dated 22 January 1992. The enfeu provides a specific historical connection during a visit to the church, while papermaking at the Moulin du Got offers a different perspective on the area’s cultural heritage.

Fishing in Brignac

The Parcours de pêche de Royères is in Brignac, in Royères, downstream from the Moulin du Got and upstream from the Filterie. Fishing is possible from the bank; on the downstream stretch, you can also fish from a float tube. There is a designated area for night carp fishing. As regulations and water conditions may vary seasonally, check the current rules and permitted techniques before fishing.

Farm Visits and Direct Sales

La Ferme de Lageas Haute runs an organic, free-range pig farm in Royères. Fresh meat and charcuterie are sold directly at the farm. Visits are possible by appointment, so arrange a time in advance. If you plan to visit for direct sales, confirm the sales arrangements beforehand. This way, you can fit both options—a pre-arranged visit and shopping at the farm—into your stay.
