Bousse offers a journey through architectural and art history, alongside seasonal water sports. The church combines a consecration dated to 1358 with later stained-glass windows; Château de Blettange and the mill bring together several historical dates. Canoe rentals add another option in July and August. When planning your visit, the main question is whether you would like to focus on historic buildings and art or on activities on the water.

Bousse Church: Architectural Layout and Stained-Glass Windows

The consecration of Bousse Church is dated to 1358. The nave, two side aisles and choir date from the same period. The stained-glass windows designed by Camille Hilaire add a later element: those in the side chapels date from 1955, and those in the choir from 1959. These dates offer a point of reference for art-minded travelers; the distribution between the side chapels and choir also allows for a spatial comparison. The parts of the building that date from the same period can thus be considered alongside the window designs, which can be distinguished by their location and date.

Château de Blettange and the Mill

Château de Blettange was destroyed in 1552 during the siege of Metz. Restoration began after 1750 under Henri Claude de Verpy. The Blettange mill adds a date between these events to the chronology: Andrieu and Jehanne Kromp probably built it from limestone in 1585. The waterwheel is still visible in the ruins. They lie on the right bank of the Moselle, below Château de Blettange. The dates and location therefore provide different points of reference: the dates trace a historical sequence, while the location shows how the mill and château are positioned in relation to one another.

View of the Church from the Moselle Bank

Walkers can see Bousse Church from a recently created path on the right bank of the Moselle, opposite the town center. This perspective complements the architectural and art history with a view of the church from the riverbank. As path conditions can change, check the current condition of the path before setting out.

Canoe Rentals and Evening Trips

The Canoë-kayak Bousse-Hagondange water sports center offers canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals in July and August. If you plan to rent equipment, schedule your trip for these months and check the dates before you travel.

The center also offers evening gourmet canoe trips in two- or three-person canoes, which include an introduction to local history. These trips may be seasonal or require a reservation, so check availability in advance. The options also differ in their planning requirements: rentals are offered in July and August, while the season and any reservation requirements for evening trips should fit your travel dates.
