Destry offers several things to consider when planning a trip: equestrian activities, walking opportunities and activities for children sit alongside local history and community events. Equestrian sports, culture and festivities each offer a different focus; consider what you want your stay to revolve around.

Equestrian Activities and Horse Boarding

Ecurie de Destry offers a variety of courses, including some unusual ones, designed to improve the relationship between rider and horse. The programme also includes a pony club, dressage and show jumping. If you are travelling for a particular course or discipline, check availability for your dates in advance; activity details may change.

Ecurie also offers horse boarding; access to the facilities may be included. If this is relevant to your stay, ask in advance about the current conditions and whether you can access the facilities.

Destry also has activities for children and walking opportunities. You can include these local options in your plans alongside equestrian sports.

Church and Local History

The Notre-Dame Church in Destry is dated to 1742. During the reconstruction of the choir of a church in Destry, the tombs of princes and warriors were discovered in 1722. These dates refer to separate historical records: 1722 to the reconstruction and discovery, and 1742 to the dating of Notre-Dame Church.

A 19th-century topographical dictionary describes Destry as a royal villa during the Carolingian period. For the 10th century, it names the village as the seat of the County of Destrich or Destroch. These records predate the church dates and add earlier associations with rule and administration to the village’s history.

Christmas Nativity Scene and Community Events

Another cultural feature is the Christmas nativity scene in Destry. The display described in 2020 includes around twenty figures in their original style. The santons date from the 20th century and are 50 to 60 centimetres tall on average; at the time, all the figures had recently been restored. For the 2020 display, the nativity scene was set up by the village’s children and their families. If you specifically want to see the nativity scene, check in advance whether and when it will be on display during your trip.

The association Les Enfants de Destry organises community events, including a Saint Nicholas celebration and a children’s carnival. If you want to plan your trip around one of these festivities, check the dates in advance.

Plan Your Route

A description of the “des crèches de Noël” tourist route, updated in 2021, goes through Destry via the D674 and gives a route length of 94.5 kilometres. Check the current route before using this information for your plans.
