Forbach: Schlossberg, Chapel and Culture
Accommodation in Forbach
Forbach offers several distinct themes for a stay: medieval heritage at Château du Schlossberg, sacred architecture at Chapelle Sainte-Croix, recreational activities at Ecopark Adventures, beer production at Brasserie Galibot and a cultural programme at La Syna. The range extends from walks and historic sites to high ropes courses, a tour that requires booking and cultural events. You can choose which themes to focus on based on what you want to shape your visit.
Schlossberg: Medieval Heritage and Walks
Château du Schlossberg is a rare relic from the Middle Ages and has become a symbol of Forbach. It is located in the park of the same name on the heights above the city. The park is a popular place for walks among families and tourists. Two different interests come together here: the Château gives the site its medieval and symbolic associations, while the park is a destination for walks. If you want to focus on Forbach’s history, the building offers a tangible point of interest; the park complements this with walks on the heights above the city.
Ecopark Adventures at Château du Schlossberg
Ecopark Adventures is located at the foot of Château du Schlossberg in Forbach. It has seven progressive high ropes courses. Ecopark Adventures also features around 100 obstacles and more than 30 zip lines. From Ecopark, you can enjoy a 360-degree panorama around the Château. Unlike a walk in the park, Ecopark focuses on the courses and zip lines; the panorama complements the activities with a view of the Château.
Chapelle Sainte-Croix and the Way of St James
Chapelle Sainte-Croix is a Gothic chapel dating from the 13th century. In 1937, it was classified as the only listed monument in Forbach. It is also an access point in France to the Chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The chapel therefore combines architectural history with a connection to the Way of St James. Compared with the medieval Château, it can be distinguished by its Gothic architecture and 13th-century origins. The chapel is open year-round from 8 a.m. until nightfall; check the opening hours before your visit. Guided tours are offered in cooperation with the Office de Tourisme and the association Les Amis de la Chapelle Sainte-Croix.
Brewery Tour at Brasserie Galibot
Brasserie Galibot is a craft microbrewery in Forbach that specialises in bottom-fermented beers. A tour introduces the stages of brewing, fermentation and bottling. It ends with a tasting of four beers served in Galopin glasses. The tour lasts one hour and requires advance booking. Check the duration and booking requirements beforehand. This allows you to plan this activity around its set duration and booking requirement.
Cultural Programme at La Syna
La Syna offers a varied cultural programme featuring live performances, exhibitions and conferences. These events make La Syna a cultural attraction in its own right, alongside the medieval Château and the Gothic chapel. If culture is a factor in your travel plans, La Syna is another local highlight.
