Longeville-Lès-Metz brings together nature and culture, which can be given different weight when planning a trip. The circular route on Mont Saint-Quentin offers elevation, woodland and views; Parc du Grand Patural, churches and the keep offer other thematic options. The range of themes spans from a circular route rated difficult to local architectural and wine-growing history.

Circular route, views and protected landscape

The circular route “Le tour du Mont Saint-Quentin” is 8.3 kilometres long and has 180 metres of elevation gain. It is rated difficult both on foot and by mountain bike. Taken together, the distance, elevation gain and difficulty provide a clear picture of the route’s profile and a basis for factoring the tour into your travel plans. Check the latest route information before setting out, as official route data may be updated if the path changes.

The path crosses the plateau’s calcareous grasslands and passes through the forest. From the viewpoint, you can see Longeville-Lès-Metz, Metz and the Moselle Valley; the panorama also takes in vineyards and villages on the hillside. The plateau, forest and views together shape the character of the tour. Mont Saint-Quentin is a classified area, part of which belongs to the Natura 2000 network; it contains protected habitats and species.

Park on the banks of the Moselle

Parc du Grand Patural is a former horse-racing track on the banks of the Moselle. The park includes an arboretum and walking paths. This gives it a different landscape focus from the circular route on Mont Saint-Quentin: here, the riverbank, parkland and paths take centre stage, while the route features a plateau, forest and panorama. When choosing, you can weigh up these different landscape themes without combining them into a single tour.

Water sports and club activities

A water sports centre is located by the water on Île Saint-Symphorien in Longeville-Lès-Metz. DML Longeville-lès-Metz is a marina and nautical club with moorings and launch points for boats, jet skis, fishing boats and kayaks. Club members can enjoy stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and tubing; they can also explore Île Saint-Symphorien.

When planning your trip, it is important to bear in mind the different conditions: moorings and launch points are part of the club’s infrastructure, while the activities listed are explicitly for members. Check current membership and availability conditions before your trip.

Keep and churches

The Donjon des Gournay is one of the oldest buildings in Longeville-Lès-Metz. Its main construction phases date from the 12th and 16th centuries. Since 6 December 1989, the keep has been listed as a historic monument in France. The construction phases place the building across more than one century; its later listing marks a separate stage in its history.

The churches also offer a glimpse into the area’s history and architecture. The Church of Saint-Symphorien was designed by Félix Madeline, Yves Rolland and Roger Fraisse. Construction began in 1955, and the church was inaugurated in 1957. The Church of Saint-Quentin, meanwhile, is a building erected in 1867 in the French neo-Gothic style. Alongside the keep’s construction phases, you can explore both an example of 19th-century neo-Gothic architecture and the dates associated with a church built in the 1950s.

Wine-growing history

Wine-growing played a fundamental role in the life and development of Longeville-Lès-Metz. The historic vineyards on Mont Saint-Quentin covered almost 75 hectares, from the 3rd century to around the middle of the 20th century. This period therefore spans many centuries, while the area gives an idea of the historic extent of wine-growing. As part of the area’s history, this theme complements its architectural history with a landscape and economic perspective.
