Discover Fontenoy-Le-Château
Accommodation in Fontenoy-Le-Château
Choosing a destination begins with a question: should your stay focus mainly on historic buildings and embroidery, or on spending time on hiking and cycling trails? Fontenoy-le-Château offers different points of interest for these activities. If you are looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you choose a location that suits your preferred itinerary.
Castles, Church and Architectural History
The Tour des Lombards is a historic monument with two artillery rooms, one above the other; its design resembles buildings from the late 14th century. The ruins of Fontenoy-le-Château Castle include the oldest keep in Lorraine. It was built at the end of the 10th century on a rocky outcrop overlooking the village. Saint-Mansuy Church was built between 1450 and 1480 on the site of a Romanesque structure dating from the early 11th century. Together, these landmarks offer different historical points of reference: the stacked rooms, the keep above the village, and a church with an older Romanesque foundation.
Embroidery Art and Ways to Visit
The Musée de la Broderie focuses on the skill of local embroiderers and documents almost 150 years of work for the international elite. It takes you from architecture to craftsmanship: here, embroidery is presented through a long history of work. The museum offers self-guided visits as well as guided tours on request. As visiting arrangements may vary by season, check them before your trip.
Les broderies de Béa is a workshop showcasing handcrafted white embroidery. Visits are possible on request; opening arrangements may vary by season. You can therefore distinguish between the two embroidery attractions by how they can be visited: the museum offers self-guided visits, while visits to the workshop are by request.
Village Walk and Nature on the Edge of the Forest
“Fontenoy-le-Château tells its story on a walk” is a historical walking tour through the village, with several stops where you can discover the area. If you plan to take part, check the current participation requirements.
At Les Fontaines Chaudes, a natural spring with a water temperature of 24°C rises at the edge of the forest. A path from this spot leads to beech trees that are among the tallest in France, as well as oak trees that are several centuries old. This combines a nature feature centered on the spring with a route to stands of old trees.
Hiking, Cycling and the Canal
The marked Circuit des Grandes Manches hiking trail starts at the municipal campsite. As local trail conditions may change, check them before setting out. For a cycling trip, the smooth, paved Voie Bleue runs from Girancourt to Fontenoy-le-Château. Check the surface condition and maintenance before your ride.
The marina at Fontenoy-le-Château is located on the Canal des Vosges. Together with the hiking and cycling routes, it provides another point of reference when planning your stay. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether architectural history, embroidery, a village walk or outdoor activities will shape your itinerary.
