Discover Martigny-Les-Bains
Accommodation in Martigny-Les-Bains
Martigny-Les-Bains combines thermal history with a park, a hiking trail and other activities. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can get a sense of the destination through these highlights: the Pavillon des Sources offers a glimpse of its architecture and visitor activities, while the Sentier du Haumont is a hiking option with a specified distance and duration. Parc Thermal brings its own waterside landscape to the picture; the church is also part of the town’s history.
Thermal history and architecture
The thermal spa in Martigny-Les-Bains opened in 1860, one year after its springs were officially recognised for their medicinal properties. The Pavillon des Sources was built around 1882 as a glass-and-metal structure with decorative wrought ironwork. It was listed as a historic monument on 18 November 1987 and classified as one on 27 June 1996. This timeline distinguishes the spa’s opening, the construction of the pavilion and the later monument designations, making it possible to consider the history of the thermal spa separately from that of the building itself.
The Pavillon des Sources hosts themed exhibitions and water tastings. Visitors can explore independently, without a guide; guided tours are available on request. The pavilion therefore offers both an architectural point of interest and different ways to visit.
Parc Thermal and Sentier du Haumont
At Parc Thermal, a stream fed by the Source Savonneuse, a lake, an island and a kiosk form the central waterside and park landscape. The Source Savonneuse is also accessible from or near Parc Thermal; it lies close to the multi-purpose hall. The stream and the spring play different roles: the spring feeds the stream, while the lake, island and kiosk are the park’s other defining features.
The Sentier du Haumont is an easy hiking trail covering 8.9 kilometres, with an estimated duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes; it starts in Martigny-Les-Bains. The route passes through the former thermal spa of Martigny-Les-Bains, which reached its heyday in the early 20th century and was nicknamed “Le petit Versailles thermal.” A viewpoint at Haumont is part of the route. For planning purposes, the details answer different questions: “easy” refers to the difficulty level, 8.9 kilometres is the trail distance, and the approximate time indicates the duration.
Visits and other activities
Visits to Parc Thermal and the Pavillon des Sources take place throughout the summer during the Pavillon des Sources’ opening hours. If you plan to include these visits in your trip, check the current opening hours before you travel.
Another activity is offered by Vosges Plaine Paramoteur: paramotor flights. The provider, based in Martigny-Les-Bains or Neufchâteau, offers introductory and recreational flights with a qualified flight instructor. If a flight is part of your plans, check availability before your trip.
The church is also part of Martigny-Les-Bains’ history of historic monuments: a decree dated 3 March 1926 listed it as a historic monument.
