Moorland and rocky landscapes

The Tourbière de Jemnaufaing is an acidic peat bog with several stages of development, including a floating bog. It is home to nationally significant dragonfly species. The peat bog is designated under the European Habitats Directive.

La Roche des Ducs is a classified natural site northeast of Rochesson. The rock features a remarkable 15-metre-wide eurite vein that runs vertically through the white granite to the summit. A marked trail leads to La Roche des Ducs from the centre of Rochesson.

Trails to forest and water

The Balade du beau sapin is a short forest loop. It leads to a fir tree standing 40 metres tall, with a circumference of 4.10 metres and a volume of 26 cubic metres.

A marked trail leads to the Cascade de Battion; the stated walking time for the round trip is 45 minutes. At the site, a water reservoir and a diversion channel recall the importance of hydropower. The car park listed for the route to the Cascade is at Place Marcel Perrin, by the Salle des Fêtes in Rochesson. As access details may change, check the information before setting off. The Balade du beau sapin is described as a short loop, while the round trip to the Cascade is stated to take 45 minutes.

Crafts and activities

Poterie du Grand Duc has a studio for artisanal pottery in Rochesson, as well as an exhibition and sales area. On Wednesdays, it offers pottery workshops focused on design, by reservation. When there is enough natural snow, Champ de neige des Truches offers the chance to learn alpine skiing; tobogganing is also available. Both activities depend on snow conditions.
