Vrécourt combines cultural history with outdoor activities. The Église Saint-Martin and the Fresque des Halles offer different cultural highlights, while walking trails and a cycling route add to the town’s appeal. When planning your trip, you can choose between exploring wooded areas, architectural history and a route with historical commemorative significance.

Landscape and protected nature

The Mouzon flows through Vrécourt. Vrécourt has a protected environment designated as a Natura 2000 site and a ZPS (Special Protection Area). The town’s various wooded areas are also accessible to everyone. Take care during hunting seasons; check the current hunting calendar before your visit. This allows you to plan time outdoors in the wooded areas while taking the seasonal restriction into account.

Walking trails and starting points

The Sentier Roby starts at Place Général de Gaulle in Vrécourt, leads into the Saurupt Forest and offers two possible routes. It is suitable for everyone. Check local conditions before setting out. The trail therefore takes you from a named starting point in town into the forest; you can choose between the two possible routes when planning your visit.

The Grand Sentier Roby is 2.93 kilometres long. Possible starting points are the centre of Vrécourt or a shelter on the edge of the Bois de Sauru. This means you can take both the distance and the starting point into account when planning: either the town centre or the shelter at the forest’s edge. The two walking trails offer different points of reference: the Sentier Roby gives you a choice of two possible routes, while the Grand Sentier Roby offers a set distance and alternative starting points.

Cultural history in the church and fresco

The Église Saint-Martin has a Romanesque tower dating from the 12th century and was rebuilt between 1737 and 1749. Its architectural history thus brings together a medieval tower and an 18th-century reconstruction. If you are interested in architecture, these dates provide a specific reference for placing the church in its historical context.

The Fresque des Halles adds a more recent cultural highlight. Young people from the region created it from 2 to 4 October 2023 in collaboration with the Centre Social de la Toupie. Its date of creation and the collaboration distinguish this work from the church’s older architectural history. If you would like to include the fresco in your stay, check with the municipality in advance to see whether access arrangements have changed.

A cycling route with historical significance

The “Voie de la 2ème DB des Vosges” circular cycling route passes through Vrécourt. The 2ème DB entered the area via the town. Steles, monuments and memorial plaques along the route commemorate historical sites. This cycling option combines exercise with a reminder of Vrécourt’s historical role. Before setting off, check the downloadable track and current conditions so you can plan your ride around the specific route.
