Luzenac offers a variety of ways to plan your trip: a signposted summit hike, the La Camina route, insights into the history of talc and local cultural heritage. You can weigh up which topics you would like to explore further by looking at specific trails and visits.

Hiking and trails around Luzenac

The hike to the Pics de Soularac et St Barthelemy starts in Luzenac and follows a 9.8 km loop to the two highest peaks in the Tabe Massif. Route details may change due to conditions or trail management; therefore, check the current route before setting out.

La Camina passes through Luzenac and connects Les Cabannes with Orlu (Forges). The route is open to walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders. The main route is listed as 28 km long. Two other versions are 31 km, including the loop near Savignac, and 35 km, including the access paths to the railway stations. This allows you to distinguish the main route from the two expressly listed extensions. The 9.8 km loop is considerably shorter than the 28 km main route of La Camina.

Talc history and visits

Talcaneô is a 400 m² immersive museum space in Luzenac devoted to talc and the industrial history built around it. Visual displays and games explain the journey of talc from extraction to processing. A dedicated area uses a 180-degree screen to follow the journey from mining to talc arriving in a household. Exhibits may change; check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Above the village, Trimouns is situated at an altitude of 1,700 m. Guided visits take visitors by coach into the active open-pit mine. They also explain the geological properties of the talc deposit. Visits may vary by season; check in advance which dates are available.

Cultural heritage and practical information

The Église de Saint Martin is a historic site and part of the ecclesiastical heritage. It is located at 2, rue de l'Église, 09250 Luzenac, but is not wheelchair accessible. The address and this accessibility limitation can help you plan a visit accordingly.

The traditional transhumance of Mérens horses is also part of the local culture. In November 2023, the event in Luzenac was organised by the village festival committee and the local pastoral group.

The Médiathèque Luzenac offers tourists and spa visitors free membership. Check the current membership conditions in advance.

For rail travel, Luzenac-Garanou railway halt is a useful reference point: it offers regular direct services throughout the year. Check the timetable before travelling so you can include the services in your plans.
