Siguer between the GR10 and the high mountains
Accommodation in Siguer
Siguer offers specific hiking connections, ranging from a trail through the commune to designated routes in the mid- and high mountains. The routes differ in their starting points, destinations and distance information. If you are looking for hotels in Siguer, these details can help you plan your stay around your hiking plans.
Location and hiking connections
Siguer is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Ariégeoises. The commune borders the Andorran parish of Ordino. At 2,903 metres, Pic du Port is the highest point in the commune; in Andorra, the same mountain is called Pic de Font Blanca. The nature park, the border location and the commune’s highest point give Siguer a distinct setting in the Pyrenean landscape.
The GR10 passes through Siguer and connects the commune with the villages of Gesties and Lercoul. This is a specific route connection for travellers who want to include the trail in their plans.
Routes from Bouychet and to the Barrage de Gnioure
Another landmark is Bouychet, where the departmental road D224 ends. Hiking trails for routes in the mid- and high mountains are marked there. The route to Étang Blaou and Port de Siguer also starts in Bouychet and initially follows the same trail as the route to Étang de Peyregrand. This shared first section is a useful point of reference between the named destinations: both routes start at the same place and share the trail at first. Check current trail and mountain conditions before setting out.
A 9 km round trip leads to the Barrage de Gnioure. It is classified as difficult and dangerous in snowy conditions. Take this rating into account when planning, and check current mountain conditions before your hike. A longer 15 km round trip leads from the Barrage de Gnioure to the Refuge du Fourcat. This lets you compare the 9 km route to the barrage with the 15 km route to the refuge as different distance options. Before setting out on the route to the refuge, also check current conditions at the refuge and along the trail.
The hike to the Barrage de Gnioure follows in the footsteps of the workers who walked to the dam construction site between 1938 and 1948. The route is therefore also connected with a specific period in the history of its construction.
Shelters and fishing
Several communal mountain huts in Siguer offer open shelters for hikers. Their use may be restricted seasonally during grazing periods. The Abri de Peyregrand can accommodate five to six people; during the summer grazing season, shepherds may have priority. Take this seasonal restriction into account when planning your hike.
Fishing is possible in the commune’s streams and mountain lakes. However, access to the lakes of Neych and the Redouneilles des vaches et des brebis is restricted: they are reserved for authorised users. These named bodies of water should therefore be considered separately from the general opportunity to fish in the streams and mountain lakes.
