Le Vibal is in the rural Lévézou area, on the edge of Lac de Pont de Salars. If you’re looking for a hotel in Le Vibal, you can choose your destination based on the themes you want your trip to focus on: landscape and views, swimming, culture or local produce. The lakeside setting, views over the valley and local sights offer different points of interest.

Landscape and panoramic views

The municipality of Le Vibal overlooks the Viaur Valley. The Statue de l’Homo Faber, which stands at an elevated point, offers a particularly expansive view. From there, the panorama stretches north to the peaks of Cantal and the Monts de l’Aubrac, east to Puech du Pal, south to Lévézou with its lakes and Mont Seigne, and west to Rodez and Rouergue. These directions provide specific reference points to help you appreciate the landscape around Le Vibal.

Art and protected architectural heritage

The Statue de l’Homo Faber can also be described in terms of its dimensions: it is five metres high, took around 1,000 hours of work to create, and is anchored in a three-tonne concrete foundation. Its height, the work involved and its foundation give the sculpture a clear sense of scale and add a cultural point of interest to the panoramic view.

The Maison Créative du Vibal exhibits wrought-iron figures created by Claude Villefranque. His sculptures took more than 18,000 hours of work to create. Alongside the single statue, the exhibition of several wrought-iron figures offers another way to experience art in Le Vibal.

The Église Saint-Martin-de-Cormières is also a cultural landmark: it has been protected as a historic monument since 8 November 1988. Artworks and the listed church offer different points of interest if you’d like to include culture in your stay.

Beach, fishing and orienteering

Plage des Moulinoches in Le Vibal is a supervised swimming beach; supervision is seasonal. It has picnic tables, a playground and toilet facilities. Cold drinks and ice cream are sold during the supervision periods over the summer holidays. If you want to plan your visit around supervision or seasonal sales, check the latest information in advance.

Fishing is also possible in the municipality. Another activity is the Les Moulinoches–Presqu’île de Montredon orienteering course, which can be done alone or in groups. Check the route materials before using them. This lets you distinguish between a visit to the beach, fishing and an orienteering course, rather than treating them as the same offering.

Organic produce direct from the farm

La Belle Verte offers farm-direct sales of organically grown fruit and vegetables in Le Vibal. Orders can be placed for collection at the farm on Fridays from 4 p.m. As collection arrangements may change, check the latest conditions in advance. The specified day of the week and time are useful reference points for planning.
