When choosing a stay in Montézic, nature, local history and technical infrastructure offer different points of interest. At the Cascade du Saut du Chien, water, granite and a botanical trail take centre stage; Lac de Montézic combines a specific fishing rule with the history of the reservoir. There is also the medieval Château de Montézic and activities offered by Nos Fibres Sauvages.

Waterfalls and botanical trail

The Cascade du Saut du Chien consists of a series of waterfalls in a granite landscape, through which the small Plane stream flows. Two elevated viewing platforms have been built at the site. The Saut du Chien walking trail includes a botanical trail focusing on local flora. The platforms and trail offer different ways to experience nature: the elevated viewpoints direct attention to the waterfall site, while the botanical trail focuses on plant life.

Fishing at Lac de Montézic

For safety reasons, fishing at Lac de Montézic is permitted only from the shore. Bear this in mind when planning the activity, and check the current fishing regulations before your trip.

The Château de Montézic in the Middle Ages

In the Middle Ages, the Château de Montézic stood on a rocky outcrop above the village. It belonged to the Counts of Rodez, who made it the seat of a castellany. Its location describes where the château stood in relation to the village; its role as a seat also places it within the Counts of Rodez’s feudal structure. Both the château’s position and its medieval role are therefore important to the local history.

Practical nature activities

At Nos Fibres Sauvages, participants can learn to light a prehistoric fire and gather edible wild plants. Unlike observing water and granite, these activities involve hands-on work with fire and plants. Since activity details may change, check the current offerings before your trip.

Reservoir and underground power station

The EDF Lac de Montézic reservoir was first filled in 1981. The Montézic site was commissioned in 1982. These dates refer to different events: the first is when the reservoir was filled, and the second is when the site was commissioned. They therefore answer different historical questions and should not be combined into a single year.

On a guided tour of the underground Montézic power station, visitors were able to enter the machine hall 400 metres underground. Check before your trip whether this tour is currently available. The subject differs from that of the château: the tour focuses on technical infrastructure, while the château is associated with the medieval castellany.
