Onet-Le-Château combines historic architecture and a seasonal cultural programme with outdoor activities. To plan your trip, explore the history of its churches and château, as well as its gallery and events, hiking trails, sports and local produce.

History and Architecture

The main building phase of the parish church of Saint-Martin de Limouze took place in the 15th century. The two former northern chapels of Saint-Martin de Limouze preserve architectural ornamentation and sculptural decoration from the late 15th or early 16th century. The Château d’Onet bears witness to a coherent building programme in the first quarter of the 16th century; the chapter is considered the likely patron. These dates refer to different aspects—main building phase, decoration and building programme—and range from the 15th to the early 16th century.

Gallery and Events

From September to June, the Galerie Les Capucines exhibits paintings, sculptures, photographs and other forms of visual art. Admission is free during the MJC’s usual opening hours. The cultural events programme also includes events at the Théâtre Municipal La Baleine; some programmes are seasonal. If you plan to attend a particular event, check the relevant dates.

Parks, Trails and Swimming

Parc de Vabre has a digital orienteering course; access details may change. The Parc de loisirs de Vabre offers children outdoor games among century-old trees, and you can also discover the municipal arboretum there. The Onet-Le-Château area has almost 70 km of hiking trails, though conditions on individual routes may change.

The VTT-Circuit 18 Les Planètes follows a gently hilly, easy-to-ride and shaded section of the Les Planètes hiking trail. The Piscine Paul Géraldini has a 25-metre swimming pool with a depth of 0.8 to 1.8 metres. The available activities therefore include both walking and cycling routes, as well as a swimming pool with specific dimensions.
