Discover Condom: Culture, Armagnac and Trails
Accommodation in Condom
Condom combines sacred architecture and museums with markets, trails, and natural sites. If you are looking for a hotel in Condom, start by deciding whether you would like to focus your stay on culture, local produce, or time outdoors. The places and activities below offer different points of interest to help you plan your trip.
Cathedral and museums
Saint-Pierre Cathedral was built in the 16th century on the site of a former abbey church dating from the 11th century. Its floor plan, typical of southern French Gothic architecture, comprises a broad single-nave interior and side chapels between the buttresses. Attached to the cathedral is the cloister, built in the 16th century on a grand scale with elegant arcades. The establishment of a Benedictine abbey in Condom in 1011 marked the beginning of the town’s subsequent history.
The Musée de l'Armagnac, located since 1981 in the outbuildings of the former bishop’s palace, focuses on the production cycle of Armagnac brandy and the development of its production. The exhibits also include a monumental press weighing 18 tonnes. Other sections explore agricultural, viticultural, distillation, and cooperage techniques. The museum therefore focuses on both production and the various related techniques.
The Museum of Sacred Art in Pradau is housed in a medieval church that has been deconsecrated since 1984 and is listed as a historic monument. Exhibits include a Romanesque portal, a painted 17th-century coffered ceiling, sacred objects, and 18th-century paintings by Jean-Baptiste Smets. The Espace Artistique Saint-Michel is a gallery for contemporary exhibitions in a former church built in 1869 and deconsecrated in 1975. Admission is free; opening is seasonal.
Lialores: church and history
The Romanesque church of Saint-Antoine in Lialores dates from the 12th century, is dedicated to Saint Anthony of Lialores, and is listed as a historic monument. It is the last surviving remnant of a Benedictine priory founded by Condom Abbey. A small archaeological collection on the prehistoric and ancient settlement of the Lialorais and Ténarèze is housed in one of the side aisles. Free visits and guided tours are offered at the church; check the current visitor arrangements before your visit.
Every year on August 15, a Palet gascon championship takes place in Lialores. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event details before travelling.

The Voie Verte de l'Armagnac is a 33-kilometre paved trail along a former railway line connecting Condom and Eauze. It is suitable for walking, cycling, and family outings. The 11-kilometre Sentier de la BaĂŻse connects the ports of Condom and Valence-sur-BaĂŻse on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback. The distances and listed ways of getting around make for a clear comparison: one trail connects two towns along a former railway line, while the other runs between two ports and can also be travelled on horseback.
Nature, markets, and local produce
Gauge Island is a protected natural area between the navigable Gauge Canal and the BaĂŻse River. Information boards explain the local wildlife and plant life. At the Bouquerie market, regional producers sell their products on Sunday mornings. Public toilets and a drinking-water point are located beneath the covered market hall in Bouquerie.
In the area around Condom, La Ferme de Martin Neuf offers tastings of its products and farm visits in July and August. As this is a seasonal offering, check opening details before your visit. A little advance planning is also useful for the town archives: they are open to the public on Thursdays from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and by appointment. Check the current visitor arrangements before your visit.
