Explore Aspet through its varied landscapes and cultural offerings: easy walks take you through forests and meadows, while a karst nature trail draws attention to geological formations. You can also discover the carillon at Saint-Martin d’Aspet Church and exhibitions on woodworking. As you plan your trip, consider which of these highlights interests you most, and look for a hotel that suits your stay.

The easy Granges et Prairies (1) walk, suitable for everyone, starts in Aspet at the stadium, to the left of the tennis courts. It has an elevation gain of 200 m and first leads through the Bois de la Rouère. Boxwood, chestnut and oak trees grow there. The route then reaches the meadows of Gèles, dotted with barns in varying states of disrepair. The trail thus combines a stretch through the forest with a landscape where the old barns stand out. The elevation gain is a useful point of reference when fitting the walk into your day’s plans.

The Sentier karstique de Saint Paul has a different focus. It starts in Aspet at the Bois Perché leisure area, takes two hours and is suitable for all visitor groups. Along the nature trail, you can discover cavities and dolines over an elevation difference of just under 60 m. The stated duration makes this a straightforward option if you want to set aside a specific amount of time for an activity. Unlike the walk through the Bois de la Rouère, this trail focuses on karst formations.

The La tour du Chucaou (13) nature trail leads around the commune of Aspet and invites you to discover its trees, wildlife and landscapes. Around 30 information panels describe the local fauna and flora. This offers another way to explore nature: here the focus is on plants, wildlife and the landscape, rather than on individual geological formations. The panels add an informative element to the walk, while the karst trail, with its cavities and dolines, has a different thematic focus.

If you are planning outdoor activities, the Cagire Garonne Salat Tourist Office in Aspet offers a reservation service. The office is less than a ten-minute walk from the ASPET – Place Ruau bus stop. Moncaup–Aspet–Saint-Gaudens buses run from there. Check the timetables separately before planning your journey.

The carillon at Saint-Martin d’Aspet Church is a manually played instrument with 16 bells (1823–2002). It is located in the bell tower, formerly the keep of the fortified old town. The market is also linked to the carillon: on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, you can hear the bells in Place de la République and the adjoining lanes in the heart of the mountains. They are played by a professional carillonneur. If you visit Aspet during market hours, a stroll through the market comes with a musical impression of the town.

The Maison du Bois in Aspet displays more than 300 tools from traditional woodworking trades, as well as works by Benoit Obrador. The exhibition contents may change. For visitors interested in crafts and woodwork, this glimpse adds a cultural activity to the hiking and nature offerings.

A stele at the foot of the Col de Portet d’Aspet commemorates Italian racing cyclist Fabio Casartelli. He died in a crash during the Tour in 1995, after falling on a descent. The memorial marks a specific event in cycling history; the carillon and Maison du Bois offer their own distinct cultural highlights.

Whether you prefer to spend your days hiking, following a nature trail or visiting cultural attractions, the different themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.
