Bellesserre: Church, Views and Chappe History
Accommodation in Bellesserre
Bellesserre brings together several travel interests: Église Sainte-Madeleine, views to the south from Point de vue Gilet, and the history of the Télégraphe Chappe. The Trail du Marguestaud and Fête de Bellesserre add to the picture with routes and programmes tied to specific dates.
Church and Views to the South
Église Sainte-Madeleine is a local point of interest in Bellesserre. If you plan to visit the church, check opening times and access in advance. Point de vue Gilet offers a different focus: open views to the south. This gives you two distinct points of interest to plan around: the church and views in a southerly direction.
The History of the Télégraphe Chappe
The télégraphe route passes through Bellesserre. In the 19th century, a Télégraphe Chappe station stood in the commune at the lieu-dit Montplaisir. Bellesserre’s Télégraphe Chappe tower served as a relay on the line from Avignon to Bordeaux; the original tower has not survived. A scale model of Bellesserre’s Télégraphe Chappe tower is located in the municipal council chamber as a reminder of the commune’s historical heritage. The relay function places the tower in the connection between Avignon and Bordeaux and shows that its history extends beyond the individual location.
Trail du Marguestaud: Formats and Dates
The fifth edition was planned for 2023 and the sixth for 2024; the various routes were each set to pass through Launac, Le Burgaud, Bellesserre, Drudas and Pelleport. At the 2024 edition on 15 September, there was a 12 km Nordic walking route, a 12 km hiking route and a 6.5 km family walk. Minors could take part if accompanied. The two 12 km options differed in format; the family walk was 5.5 kilometres shorter. Check current event details if you plan to take part in a future edition.
