Lac de Flourens is an artificial lake with a surface area of 7 ha. You can observe waterbirds at the lake year-round; mallards and grey herons are seen daily. The lake is used for recreation and fishing. This makes it a specific point of interest for planning a nature-focused stay.

Lake, Nature and Loop Trail

A 2.7 km loop runs along the water at Lac de Flourens, beneath the canopy of large trees. Five interpretive stations along the loop cover common animals and plants. In addition to its length, the trail therefore has a natural history focus: its route takes in the lakeshore and treetops, while the stations draw attention to plants and animals. Two details with different purposes help you compare the trail’s features: 2.7 km describes the route, while the five stations indicate its learning focus.

The trail at Lac de Flourens is accessible to everyone and is designed in particular for people with visual impairments and people with reduced mobility. If accessibility affects your choice of routes, this design is a specific point to note about the lakeside trail. For travelers who take visual or mobility needs into account when choosing a route, this information is a relevant selection criterion.

Church and Architectural History

Saint Martin Church was deeply marked by the Wars of Religion. It houses a 16th-century Pietà on a marble base. A Pietà depicts Mary with the body of Christ and is a religious subject. At Saint Martin, the church’s history and a specifically dated work of art thus offer two distinct perspectives. If you are interested in sacred art, the Pietà is a particular work to see, while the impact of the Wars of Religion offers another way to view the building.

In January 1977, a church building collapsed. Dedicated volunteers from the “les Amis de la Madeleine” association brought the building back to life after two years of work.

The new Mairie-école was built on the village square in 1884; it follows the architectural tradition of the Toulouse region. By definition, a Mairie-école combines a town hall and a school. Its year of construction, function and regional architectural tradition help place the building in context. As a type of municipal building, it adds another aspect of local history to the church history of Saint Martin.

From the Lake Through the Village

A walk published in September 2023 begins at the lake, passes through the village center to the information board, and continues towards the chapel. Check whether the leaflet is available before your trip. The two route descriptions help with different planning questions: the loop around the lake is described by its length and waterside route, while the village walk provides orientation through its sequence of stops. You can therefore use the loop’s specific distance and the walk’s waypoints as different reference points for your plans.
