Vacquiers: Trails, Wine and Hiking
Accommodation in Vacquiers
Vacquiers offers several specific options for a stay: a circular hike with a stated distance and duration, a walk between the church plateau and the washhouse, and visits focused on wine and barrel ageing. When choosing a hotel in Vacquiers, it may help to decide first whether you mainly want to spend time walking or focus on tastings and themed visits. The activities differ in their routes and content: La Vitirando is a loop, the Circuit du Patrimoine links two named points of interest, and the visits each have their own focus.
Hiking and trails in Vacquiers
La Vitirando de Vacquiers is a 12 km circular hiking trail; the stated duration is three hours. The distance and time help you plan how much of the day the loop will take. There are 13 scent markers along the route to help you identify aromas that occur naturally in Fronton wines. So, as well as walking, the hike focuses on experiencing these aromas. The starting marker for the loop is in the car park in front of Vacquiers town hall. It gives you a specific point of reference for setting out; if you are travelling by car, check current parking conditions in advance.
The Circuit du Patrimoine runs between the church plateau and the washhouse; following maintenance work from 2022 to 2024, it is open to walkers. Check trail conditions before setting out. Unlike the Vitirando, this route focuses on the two points in the village. This gives you the choice between a circular hike with a stated distance and a walk linking these specific points.
The former Chemin de l’Escalere is an old connecting path between Vacquiers and Montjoire. It reopened in 2022; check the current conditions on site before planning a walk.
Wine, aromas and visits
The Frontonnais terroir in Vacquiers includes slopes, plains and hilltops with different aspects, as well as wooded landscapes. It also features alluvial soils from the Tarn and unique clay-limestone soils. These landforms and soil types give the wine-growing area its own distinctive landscape and complement the wine experiences with a look at the character of the region.
Domaine Plaisance Penavayre offers tasting experiences at its winery at 102 Place de la Mairie, 31340 Vacquiers. Booking details may change; check them in advance if you are planning a tasting.
A visit to Maison Victors includes a tour of an ageing cellar, where whisky and rum are shown ageing in barrels. Alongside the wine aromas featured on La Vitirando, this visit has its own focus on the barrel ageing of spirits.
For further information about Domaine des Pradelles and its wines, to organise an event or to enquire about a possible visit, you can contact the winery directly. If you are considering a visit, ask the winery about the current arrangements.
