Les Angles brings together sacred architectural and artistic history, traces of past uses, and a historic route. The portal of the Faderne des Angles displays an engraved Paschal lamb bearing a banner. As you walk through Les Angles, you will see several stone or iron wayside crosses. These details offer specific points of connection for experiencing the village’s history beyond its individual buildings.

Church and Faderne

The Église Saint-Étienne dates from the 17th and 18th centuries and has a wall bell tower. The church is listed in the supplementary inventory of historic monuments. Inside is 18th-century furniture, including a three-part altarpiece framed by twisted columns and a tabernacle. The furniture was added to the same supplementary inventory in December 2002. Beside the entrance to the choir stand two gilded wooden angels attributed to the workshop of Marc and Jean Ferrère.

According to oral tradition, the house on the heights above the village was once the castle chapel. It was partly destroyed during the Wars of Religion, then converted into a faderne and later into a rectory.

Château and mill

The Château des Angles stands on a wooded hill. Its cylindrical keep was built around 1300 by one of the oldest noble families in Bigorre. The current access road to the château is more recent; in the past, the castle was reached from the village by a steep path. If you are planning a specific route, check local conditions in advance.

At the foot of the seigneurial château, the Moulin La Mole du Castet was built in 1734. The mill has a wheat mill and a corn mill. The cylindrical keep and the two mills reflect different aspects of the local heritage: architectural history on the one hand, milling technology on the other. The Moulin La Mole du Castet offers individual tours; check the dates and access arrangements before your trip.

Paths and landscape

The Chemin de l'Espélugue is an old route from Arrodets to Lourdes that passes through Les Angles. If you plan to include it in a specific itinerary, check local conditions in advance.

The Les Angles–Centre bus stop is less than a ten-minute walk from the Église Saint-Étienne. For a specific journey, it is worth checking the current timetable.

The Réseau hydrographique des Angles et du Bénaquès, a water network extending across several municipalities, includes numerous suitable habitats for the white-clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes).
