Pouzac combines a distinctive village history with Golf de Bigorre as a destination in its own right. On your trip, you can balance cultural and historical interests with golf in the Pyrenean setting. The Église Saint-Saturnin brings together several specific architectural and decorative features; other buildings and the Balade autour du patrimoine offer a broader view of the village. The Jambonnade, a traditional summer festival, is also part of Pouzac’s character.

Church and Architectural History

The Église Saint-Saturnin is classified as a historic monument. Construction began in 1548, after an earlier building was destroyed by fire. The portal bears the date 1563, and the two northern chapels date from 1588. The church therefore has several distinct milestones: the start of construction, the portal and the chapels each represent a different aspect of its architectural history. A wooden vault painted by Jean Catau adds to these architectural details. A fortified wall with a gate encloses the church cemetery and forms another structural feature of the complex.

Pouzac also has distinctive features beyond the church’s architectural history. The Château de l’Angle is a Neoclassical building dating from 1840. The school’s bell tower is part of Pouzac’s distinctive village landscape, with its two bell towers. A 19th-century building and a feature of the village’s layout thus complement the church’s older architectural details. The Balade autour du patrimoine is a walking tour of the village’s historic and cultural sites. Its scope is broader than a focus on a single building: it takes in several sites in Pouzac.

Passionate guides bring the Église Saint-Saturnin to life with their explanations. Check the seasonal visiting arrangements in advance. In 2024, baroque walks and visits to the church were also scheduled for July, August and September. If you would like to include such events in your trip, check the current visiting arrangements and dates for your travel year.

Golf and the Pyrenean Setting

Golf de Bigorre in Pouzac is an 18-hole golf course covering 59 hectares. Olivier Brizon designed it in 1991. These figures describe different aspects of the course: 18 holes indicate the scale of play, while 59 hectares describe its area; the design year places its creation in time. The course is set in natural surroundings, facing the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and the Pyrenees mountain range. Views may vary depending on conditions. For golf enthusiasts, this offers a clear focus that differs from the historic buildings and village walk.

The Jambonnade and When to Visit

The Jambonnade is Pouzac’s traditional summer festival. Its 45th edition took place from 25 to 27 July 2025. This dated edition gives a specific example of the summer festival, but does not provide dates for another travel year. If the Jambonnade is relevant to your travel plans, check the current dates in advance. This lets you weigh your interests in village history, golf and festival dates separately, without combining them into a single itinerary.
