Bagnac and the Célé Valley

Bagnac-sur-Célé is a starting point for the Célé Valley. The Vallée du Célé nature centre extends from Bagnac-sur-Célé to its confluence with the Lot. If you are looking for a hotel in Bagnac, you can plan your stay around your interests in culture, nature or activities on the Célé.

Natural Area and Landscape

The Le Célé à Bagnac area is a type 1 ZNIEFF natural area and includes the commune of Bagnac-sur-Célé. It covers 169.83 hectares. Two species listed in Annex II of the Habitats Directive, which were key to its designation, are found there, including a colony of Barbastelle bats. The inventory was updated through 2024 and published in 2025. Ecologically recorded habitats include riparian forests of ash and alder.

Bridge, Church and Mills

The medieval Pont sur le Célé bridge is for pedestrians only and has been listed as a historic monument since 11 January 1951. Its three pointed arches give the bridge a distinctive design. The west façade of Saint-Pierre parish church has a neoclassical design, with the bell tower in the central section. Much of the present church dates from the 15th century. Building phases in the 16th and 19th centuries probably followed.

The Moulin à eau de Bouluech watermill is regularly open to the public; check the current opening dates before visiting. Its restored mill room has explanatory panels about how mills in the region work. The Moulin des Conturies offers a different way to explore the subject of mills: it has working millstones and a small museum.

Walking Trails and Activities on the Célé

The Circuit des Gâches loop starts in Bagnac-sur-Célé and is a 10.9-kilometre, moderately difficult circular hike. It passes through woodland and small villages and offers viewpoints. The route is also suitable for horse riders and mountain bikes. This makes it possible to include a specific trail, with details on its length, difficulty and terrain, in your travel plans.

The leisure area on the Célé in Bagnac-sur-Célé includes a barbecue area, an accessible fishing platform and a canoe launch. Check the condition of the facilities on site. The no-kill fishing stretch on the Célé is more than 1.2 kilometres long. To access it freely and free of charge, you need both a département fishing licence and the free permit for the no-kill stretch. Find out in advance about current permit outlets and fishing conditions. On the Linac side, there are two nearby no-kill stretches for trout fishing; check local access conditions and rules there as well.

Weekly Market and Horse Accommodation

The weekly market takes place on Wednesdays at Place du Foirail. The stalls include vendors of charcuterie, cheese, meat, poultry, fish, baked goods, fruit and vegetables, as well as prepared foods. The mix of vendors may change, so check the market day again before your trip.

For travellers with horses, Ferme de Caffoulens may be useful: it offers accommodation for horses and is a stop for horseback treks. Confirm current arrangements directly.
