The municipality of Assac stretches across ridges and plateaus on the edge of the Ségala. There are several options for a stay: the “Des éoliennes aux moulins” walking trail, traditional dance classes, products from a farm, and Castelpanis. If you are looking for a hotel in Assac, it helps to decide early what you are travelling for. The options differ mainly in seasonal dates, whether reservations are required, and limited visiting hours.

Walk the circular trail

The “Des éoliennes aux moulins” circular trail is 6 km long. It starts in the village near the salle des fêtes car park and finishes there. The start and finish are therefore at the same place; the trail length gives you a concrete basis for planning your day. The route is included in the PDIPR, the departmental plan for hiking and walking paths, and has been awarded the France Randonnée label. Check trail conditions and local signage before setting out. Listings and designations can change; if they matter to your choice, check that they are still current.

The trail’s French name refers to wind turbines and mills. There are two wind energy projects in Assac. Ten wind turbines in Assac convert the mechanical or kinetic energy of the wind into electrical energy. This gives the wind power theme in the trail’s name a concrete technical context.

Visit Castelpanis

Castelpanis is on private property. Access is only possible as part of visits organised by the municipal administration during the European Heritage Days. Check the current programme for these days before visiting; access is limited to these organised dates. Castelpanis therefore cannot be planned as a freely accessible stop.

Dance classes throughout the year

The Assac-danse association offers traditional dance classes on Monday evenings from October to April. This gives your trip planning a seasonal framework. As the class schedule may change, check the current dates in advance. If you are travelling to Assac specifically for a class, the right period may determine your travel dates.

Farm products and visits by reservation

L’Atelier de Courbière has had a processing workshop since 2019. It produces raw-milk sheep’s cheese and ice cream made from whole sheep’s milk. Yogurt and bottled milk are also sold at the farm. Visits to the farm are possible by prior reservation. Arrange your visit and also confirm current product availability before travelling. This lets you include the products in your plans without assuming that a visit or particular products will be available at short notice.

Match your travel dates to your plans

The activities differ in how closely they are tied to specific dates: dance classes run from October to April, Castelpanis visits depend on the European Heritage Days programme, and farm visits require advance reservations. For the walking trail, the main things to check are local trail conditions and signage. Choose your hotel dates to suit the activity that matters most to you.
