With the Forêt départementale de Sérénac, Sérénac offers a clear connection to nature and outdoor activities. In the forest, you can go for walks on foot, as well as mountain biking or horseback riding. The different activities offer varied ways to experience the landscape: you can focus on the trees and wildlife, take part in an orienteering activity, or choose a named hiking route. When planning your trip, the main thing to consider is which activity you would like to make the focus of your stay.

Forest Landscape and Wildlife

The Forêt départementale de Sérénac covers about 210 hectares of coniferous and deciduous forest. Common tree species include oaks, red oaks, lime trees and hornbeams; several species of mushroom also grow there. The local birdlife offers another specific way to connect with nature: five species of woodpecker live in the forest—the green woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, lesser spotted woodpecker, middle spotted woodpecker and black woodpecker. This gives you a range of topics to focus on during a nature walk: the composition of the forest, mushrooms and the different woodpeckers. Tree species, mushrooms and birdlife each offer their own perspective on the forest area.

Treasure Hunts and Orienteering Courses

Explorateurs du Tarn combines physical activity with problem-solving in the Forêt départementale de Sérénac: it is an outdoor treasure hunt. It includes three easy orienteering courses. One course is aimed at children and explores biodiversity; an easy course for adults also focuses on biodiversity, while another easy course for adults is dedicated to forest management. The orienteering courses are located in an Espace Naturel Sensible that is open to the public. When choosing, you can therefore consider both the topic and the specific course designated for children or adults. Biodiversity is the shared theme of two courses; forest management is the focus of the third.

Two Hiking Trails with Different Profiles

The Sentier de découverte de la forêt de Sérénac is a very easy circular route. Between points 3 and 4, there is a 1.5-kilometre section adapted for people with reduced mobility. This information applies to the specified section of the route. The Sentier de la Méridienne is a moderately difficult 11-kilometre hiking route. It runs from the Plateau de Sérénac into the Tarn valley and forms a loop around the Méridienne verte. This gives you two different types of trail to choose from: a very easy circular route with an adapted section, and a moderately difficult 11-kilometre hike with a route described from the plateau down into the valley and around the Méridienne verte. Difficulty, distance and route provide concrete points of comparison.
