Crisolles: Memorial Sites, Architecture and Routes
Accommodation in Crisolles
The Mémorial noyonnais de la Résistance et de la Déportation is located on Chemin des Hayettes. Its ceramic high reliefs commemorate the resistance fighters of the Maquis des Usages and the events of June 1944.
Memorial Sites and Architecture
Another historical landmark is the Monument de Crisolles at Le Chemin Creux. It was inaugurated on 30 September 1934 and is dedicated to the defenders of Noyon during the fighting on 23, 24 and 25 March 1918. The monument is a concrete wall designed by architects Davroux and Gauthier. Together with the Mémorial, it represents two distinct historical periods: the First World War fighting in March 1918 and the events of the Second World War in June 1944.
The Église Saint-Eloi also brings together a history of reconstruction and a specific detail inside the church. After the First World War, it was completely rebuilt on the model of the previous church building. The nave has Art Deco-style windows, created in 2008 by Tambouret, a stained-glass artist from Amiens. The Neo-Gothic style and brick construction describe the exterior architecture; the windows provide a distinct reference to the interior design.
Activities at the SHOOTING PARK
The SHOOTING PARK is located on a restored former military site, while the park’s natural setting has been preserved. Activities on offer include clay pigeon shooting and 3D archery. The 3D course is open year-round and is about four kilometres long, but is currently undergoing a complete redesign. Access is restricted to certain archers. Check the access requirements and the status of the redesign before planning your visit.
The former Parc Carisiolas is part of another change in the site’s history: the medieval theme park closed in early 2020. The site is now associated with the SHOOTING PARK. This distinguishes the site’s former use from the activity currently associated with it, without presenting the closed theme park as something visitors can enjoy today.
Routes along the Verse and a cycling route
The route guide lists the Circuit de la Verse as closed until further notice; check its status before planning a visit. The route starts at Place du Commerce in Crisolles. According to the route guide, shortly after crossing a bridge, the path follows the Verse stream. Some traces of the former local railway line can also be seen along the Verse. These details provide different points of reference for the route and the area’s transport history; however, given the closure notice, do not plan to use the path without first checking its status.
For cycling, the 55-kilometre “Au pays des fruits rouges” route passes through Crisolles. It is on a different scale from the approximately four-kilometre 3D archery course: one figure describes a cycling route, the other the course at the SHOOTING PARK. The distances refer to these respective activities and do not indicate walking times or current access.
