Mouy offers plenty to explore during a stay, from architectural history and industrial heritage to leisure activities along the Thérain. If you are looking for a hotel in Mouy, you can decide whether historic buildings, cultural events or outdoor activities should shape your stay. The town offers a range of starting points, each with its own story to tell.

Architectural history from the Middle Ages to the 20th century

The Église Saint-Léger is a Gothic building whose construction spanned the 12th to the 17th century. One particularly early feature is the polygonal choir, which dates from the third quarter of the 12th century. The church has been classified as a historic monument since May 28, 1936. Its long construction period and the precise dating of the choir offer two distinct chronological reference points in the architectural history of the town.

The Château de Mouy tells another chapter of the town's history. Today, only a small part of the complex remains. During the Wars of Religion in the 16th century, the château served as a refuge for Protestants in the region. The citadel was captured and recaptured during several conflicts in this turbulent period. The site is therefore connected not only with a single building, but also with the regional conflicts of that era.

The Pavillon Gréber adds a distinctly later architectural note. Classified as a historic monument, the building was created at the beginning of the 20th century through a collaboration between architect Fidélie Bordez and ceramicist Charles Gréber. Its design combines Art Nouveau features such as bay windows, lavish decoration and rounded windows with elements inspired by spa architecture. These include half-timbering and a roof that projects on brackets. Architecture enthusiasts can compare different forms and stylistic features in a single building here.

Culture and industrial heritage

The Théâtre de Mouy is also part of the town's architectural history: the Prince family had it built in 1896. After the building was acquired in October 2023, it was renovated with the aim of using it as a multicultural venue; performances and concerts resumed. If an event is an important part of your travel plans, check the current programme in advance.

The former Berthault–Paillard industrial site was located along the Thérain in central Mouy. Another trace of the town's industrial history can be found on the grounds of Parc George Sand: the J-M Paillard factory once stood there and was known for producing watercolour and wash tablets. Today, Parc George Sand has an outdoor fitness trail, a playground and a book box. The former production site and today's leisure facilities thus offer a striking contrast across time.

Activities on the Thérain and by bike

For visitors interested in fishing, the AAPPMA de Mouy maintains a first-category fishing section on the Thérain. The organisation also runs an Atelier Pêche Nature for children. If you would like to include this activity in your travel plans, check in advance for current dates and any age requirements.

The Vélo Club de Mouy also offers a specific option for active days: it organises mountain-bike or road-bike rides every Wednesday and Sunday morning. These represent two different forms of cycling. Before joining, check with the club that the ride is going ahead as planned.

Getting there and finding your way around

Mouy-Bury station is 600 metres from Mouy town centre. This distance gives you a clear idea of how far the station is from the centre when planning your journey. The historic buildings, theatre, park and activities on the Thérain offer different ways to spend your stay, from architecture and history to leisure and cycling.
