Accommodation in Belloy-Sur-Somme
Belloy-sur-Somme brings together a wetland spanning almost 90 hectares and architectural and cultural heritage from various periods. There are also hiking routes and pony lessons for children. This provides three specific themes to help you plan your stay: the marsh, local history and outdoor activities.
Wetland and plant life
The Marais de Belloy-sur-Somme is a preserved wetland of high ecological value, covering almost 90 hectares. It includes ponds, floating peat mats, reed beds and wet woodland. A marked educational trail leads through the wetland. A total of 355 plant species have been recorded in the Marais; 18 of them are on the Hauts-de-France Red List of threatened plant species. Visitors interested in nature will find both a range of habitat types and information about plant life here.
Châteaux, church and heritage status
The Château d’en bas, its park and outbuildings are included in the inventory of historic monuments. The Chapelle du Château d’en bas is classified as a historic monument. Château d’en haut acquired its present form in the 18th century; it includes a half-timbered and cob building that is also included in the inventory of historic monuments. The present-day Église Saint Nicolas was consecrated on 31 August 1845. This places the period when the château took shape and an exact consecration date side by side as distinct points of reference in time. Half-timbering is a building method that uses a timber frame. In the case of the dovecote, the term helps identify the combination of a timber frame and cob as a specific pairing of materials.
An archaeological layer of history
The Gisement de la Plaisance is an Upper Paleolithic archaeological site in Belloy-sur-Somme. Excavations there uncovered tools dating from around 10,000 years ago. The site adds an archaeological perspective to the history of the buildings: the focus here is on tools from a much earlier period than the later architectural heritage. The age given is an approximation.
Hiking and activities
The Circuit des iris starts in Belloy-sur-Somme and is listed as a hike covering 7.9 kilometres and taking three hours. The route length and estimated time help you plan how much time to set aside for the hike. The Belloy - La Chaussée hiking route is associated with the themes of history and waterways. This offers a thematic point of reference, while the Circuit des iris focuses on distance and duration.
Pony lessons are another local activity: the Poney club at Les Écuries de Belloy-sur-Somme offers lessons year-round for children aged three and over. Since offerings can change, check the latest information with the provider in advance.
