The Église Saint-Médard d’Omiécourt and the Institut Spa at Château d’Omiécourt offer different highlights for a trip to Omiécourt. The church combines a history of reconstruction with sacred art; the spa offers bathing facilities as well as treatments and massages, which must be booked in advance. When planning, you can consider cultural history and wellness offerings as separate focuses.

The Church’s Reconstruction and Architecture

The Église Saint-Médard was rebuilt after the First World War based on Louis Verdier’s second design. This was approved in June 1925, and the construction work was accepted on June 17, 1929. This distinguishes two stages of the reconstruction: approval of the design and acceptance of the work. The floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross; the vault and roof structure are made of reinforced concrete. The dates tell the story of the reconstruction, while the cross shape and reinforced concrete describe the architectural form. Since the decision of April 9, 2024, the church, including the permanently installed altar and baptismal fonts, has been fully protected as a historic monument.

Sacred Art and Furnishings

The furnishings include an altar, stained-glass windows, a confessional, the Stations of the Cross, a monumental wall painting, and paintings. Canvas paintings from 1928 depict the Flight into Egypt, the Death of Saint Joseph, a Pietà, and the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. The choir also contains a monumental depiction of the Last Supper. The statue La Vierge is carved from wood, painted in polychrome, and has been listed as a protected cultural object since April 5, 2001. Canvas paintings, wall painting, and carved sculpture stand alongside one another as different forms of sacred art. Another distinction lies in their dates and locations: the year 1928 applies to the canvas paintings, while the depiction of the Last Supper is located in the choir.

Spa and Accommodation

The Institut Spa at Château d’Omiécourt includes a sauna, a hammam, a jacuzzi, an indoor pool heated year-round, and an outdoor pool open year-round. Treatments and massages are available by prior reservation only; massages are offered for individuals or couples. The institute is open to both overnight guests and external customers. A spa visit therefore does not necessarily require an overnight stay at the Château. As the offerings may change, it is advisable to check for current information before your visit.
