Accommodation in Steindorf
Steindorf is a municipality in the district of Aichach-Friedberg in Bavaria. Its churches and cycle route offer different starting points for choosing a place to stay: the architectural history spans from an early mention in the Middle Ages to later changes to churches, while the Paartal Cycle Route begins in Steindorf.
Churches and architectural history from different periods
The Catholic parish church of St. Stephen is listed as a protected monument in the municipality. The building contract for the present-day structure was signed by Giovanni Antonio Viscardi on 11 June 1700; the building dates from 1700/01 and was extended in 1868/69. The main altar and two side altars were consecrated in 1751. Three ceiling paintings by Basilio Colett date from 1898.
These dates place different aspects of the church in context: the contract and construction period point to the creation of the present-day building, the altars to a period in the 18th century, and the ceiling paintings to a later artistic phase. This makes it possible to explore the architectural history through specific dates rather than reducing its development to a single point in time.
Steindorf’s St. George’s Church in Eresried offers an earlier historical reference point: it was first mentioned around 1126. Several Late Gothic sculptures date from around 1480–1490. The early mention and the later-dated works of art thus stand alongside each other as distinct historical reference points.
Several construction phases can also be distinguished at St. Peter and Paul in Hausen. The choir was built in 1712, and the nave was added in 1749–1750. The Early Rococo stucco was applied in 1762 and restored in 1958. The tower has a distinctive slender shape and a bulbous dome. The details about the choir, nave, stucco, and tower each offer a separate architectural point of interest.
Cycling through the Paartal
The Paartal Cycle Route begins in Steindorf and runs through the Paartal, considered one of Bavaria’s last near-natural river landscapes. The starting point is listed as Schulstraße 7, 82297 Steindorf. This brings together a specific route reference and a description of the landscape. Check current route conditions and access to the starting point before setting off.
Schmiede, Steindorf (Paar), is listed as the nearest stop for the Steindorf section of the Paartal Cycle Route. If you plan to travel by public transport, check current services before your journey. This keeps the starting point, route conditions, and connection in view without confusing the stop’s location with a claim about actual service.
Aichach-Friedberg as the wider context
In the wider destination of Aichach-Friedberg, the district’s cycling map features 14 well-signposted themed cycle routes. The Paartal hiking trail is a different route: it follows the middle Paar from Aichach to Gut Schenkenau in the district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen and is 36.8 kilometers long in total. The two routes therefore provide different details about the activity and its scope: a cycling map with themed routes in one case, and a specifically described hiking route in the other.
Aichach-Friedberg also offers distinct historical points of interest for culture enthusiasts. The pilgrimage church of Herrgottsruh in Friedberg was built from 1731 to 1753 and is considered one of the finest works of Bavarian Rococo. This regional context complements the church architecture in Steindorf without conflating the buildings or their dates.
