Hiking and activities in Bolsterlang

Bolsterlang is located within the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park. One hiking tour runs from Bolsterlang to the Sonderdorfer Kreuz and back to the starting point via the district of Sonderdorf. This makes the destination and return route clearly distinct: the cross is the destination, and Sonderdorf lies on the way back. If you are choosing a route for your stay, you can include this tour in your plans as a specific hiking option.

The Hörnerbahn ski area in Bolsterlang has a total of 17 kilometres of pistes across all levels of difficulty. It also has family-friendly pistes and children's practice areas for beginners and experienced skiers. Daily operations may vary by season, so check the latest operating information before your trip. The Hörnerbahn is a cable car with six-person gondolas that takes passengers up to the Hörner mountains. The Hörner Panorama Tour also starts at the Hörnerbahn, where mountain cart rides are offered as well.

In the valley, archers can shoot at a 3D archery course. Archery courses are offered roughly from mid-May to early November. As this activity is seasonal, we recommend checking current availability before your trip.

Chapels and the Viehscheid cattle drive

The Marienkapelle in the district of Kierwang dates from the late 17th century and houses a Baroque altar. A different episode takes centre stage at St. Magnus Chapel in the district of Sonderdorf: in 1719, it burned down along with nine houses in the village and was rebuilt a short time later. The two chapels highlight different aspects of local history: in Kierwang, the date and altar shape the description; in Sonderdorf, it is the fire and reconstruction.

The Viehscheid cattle drive is celebrated in Bolsterlang in September. If you are planning a trip around this event, check the specific event dates before booking.

The Oberallgäu as a regional context

For regional context, it is worth looking at the wider travel destination of the Oberallgäu. Oberstdorf has 200 kilometres of hiking trails and nature trails. The Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill can be visited; visitors can take the tower lift to the viewing platform on the ski jump tower. The Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Centre in Immenstadt-Bühl is located right beside Lake Alpsee. It has a free-admission interactive exhibition about animals, plants, their habitats and the special features of the protected area; opening arrangements may vary. From Immenstadt railway station, the Achis Wasserweg themed trail leads to the centre on foot in 30 minutes. In bad weather, bus routes 39, 11 and 81 go there. Check the walking time and bus service again before travelling.

The Allgäuer Bergbauernmuseum is also located in Immenstadt-Diepolz. This interactive open-air museum documents the lives of Allgäu mountain farmers in historic buildings; opening hours vary by season.
