Diepolz
Accommodation in Diepolz
Some of Diepolz’s distinctive highlights include the parish church of St. Blasius, with its long architectural history; rural life at the Allgäu Mountain Farming Museum; and trails connected with the area. A family adventure trail, a panoramic circular route to Akams and groomed winter hiking trails each offer something different. When choosing Diepolz for a stay, you can consider whether architectural and art history, insights into agriculture or outdoor trails are most important to your plans.
St. Blasius Church and Historic Buildings
The parish church of St. Blasius was largely rebuilt between 1509 and 1517, given a Baroque makeover in 1783/84 and remodelled in the Gothic Revival style in 1889. Its furnishings include a baptismal font dating from 1490, distinctive keystones in the choir arches and a sacrament house north of the high altar. The nave features paintings of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and the Stations of the Cross. Other notable features include a processional cross from the first half of the 13th century and an impressive Gothic Revival coffered ceiling decorated with zodiac signs.
Another historic building in Diepolz is the Sattler-Hof, a 300-year-old timber-strung farmhouse. It originally stood in Schöllang near Oberstdorf and was relocated to Diepolz in 2007.
Mountain Farming Museum and Adventure Trail
The Allgäu Mountain Farming Museum in Immenstadt-Diepolz is an open-air museum located at an altitude of over 1,000 m. In historic buildings, it conveys how Allgäu mountain farmers lived in the past and live today. Its themes include farming tasks, alpine farming and dairy farming, as well as hands-on activities and old breeds of farm animals.
The museum farm offers insights into everyday farm work, including feeding, milking and mucking out, as well as driving the animals out to pasture. The Kuhnigundenweg is a family adventure trail in Diepolz with play and information stations around the Allgäu Mountain Farming Museum.
By prior arrangement, educational activities and courses for all age groups are offered at the Sattler-Hof. These include butter-making, beekeeping, herb and felting courses.
Circular Route and Winter Hiking Trails
The panoramic circular route from Diepolz to Akams reaches an altitude of 1,060 metres and offers views of the Nagelfluhkette mountains. In winter, around 25 kilometres of groomed winter hiking trails run from Stein to Diepolz and from Akams to Knottenried. The descriptions highlight different aspects: the circular route specifies its altitude and views, while the winter offering gives an approximate distance, notes that the trails are groomed and describes the two routes. This lets you choose between the trail options based on the scenery you want or their connection to winter.
