Seeg: Bees, Lakes and Rococo
Accommodation in Seeg
Seeg offers views of the Alpine panorama, numerous lakes, ponds and waterways, as well as green meadows, forests and expansive hills. When choosing a destination, you can weigh up different priorities: beekeeping, routes through the countryside, local history or seasonal activities.
Beekeeping to watch and take part in
Guided tours of the Seeg Bee Experience Centre explore bees, honey, bee products and the work of beekeepers; the adjacent bee house is also included. There, you can watch bees at work. Visitors can also see beekeepers working at the Bee Experience Centre and extract honey themselves. The experience ranges from insights into beekeeping to trying out a hands-on step.
The bee house and bee garden are located directly behind the building and can be reached via a short outdoor path of about 50 metres. At the Bee Experience Centre’s bee shop, you can sample and buy honey, propolis, royal jelly, bee venom and beeswax. The tour content, observation, honey extraction and shop each offer a different focus on bee products.
Another perspective is offered by the Bee Experience Trail: its twelve stops take you through Seeg town centre, past flower gardens, fruit meadows and a pond, as well as various play stations around the town. This lets you discover bees while exploring the town and surrounding countryside.
Lakes, routes and activities throughout the year
The Moor and Lakes Loop leads through Seeg’s moorland landscape, across green meadows, through forests and past the Seeg lakes. Below St. Ulrich Church, hikers can use a telescope to observe the birdlife on the Seeg lakes. The loop combines views of the landscape with a specific spot for observation.
Cycling also offers a range of options: the region in and around Seeg has opportunities for cycling, e-biking, mountain biking, road cycling and longer-distance cycle tours. The approximately 120-kilometre Allgäu Scenic Viewpoints Route starts and ends in Seeg. As route conditions may change, it is a good idea to check the current route before setting out.
In winter, Seeg has well-maintained cross-country ski trails and cleared winter hiking paths. If you are planning a trip for this season, check trail and path conditions in advance. This lets you plan your day around local conditions rather than treating the summer and winter options as the same.
Rococo church, local history and getting there
St. Ulrich in Seeg is one of Bavaria’s most important Rococo churches. The Seeg Local History Museum explores the town’s history through crafts that have died out, the development of dairy farming and beekeeping in our grandparents’ time. The church and museum offer different cultural perspectives: one focuses on the Rococo church, while the other explores the development of crafts, dairy farming and beekeeping.
For bus travel, Seeg is served by routes 56 and 60; check their timetables before travelling. The first stage of the Allgäu Scenic Viewpoints Route starts on Ladestraße, right by Seeg railway station.
Whether you focus your stay on beekeeping, the landscape, cycling or local history, Seeg offers a range of distinct themes. When planning your trip, compare which of them matter most for your days, and take the relevant conditions into account for seasonal paths and routes.
